Made some really good progress tonight. Just one of those days where almost everything worked out well and came together. We needed one of those!
Long story short on the new 3" aluminum driveshaft I got recently... bought a new/2nd hand shaft on ebay for $200 in the length I thought was dead nuts what I needed, but I failed to account for the larger 1350 pinion yoke, so was going to get it shortened 1/2" (at the tune of $125) to make the trans yoke hit its target slip of 3/4"... driveshaft guy says we dont have a 1350 pinion u-joint, as I was told by seller, but instead it's a 1330/3R conversion u-joint... first I am kinda pissed, but then realize because of this the 1330 pinion yoke is shorter than the 1350 and that makes my driveshaft perfect length and hits my 3/4" slip target as I had previously thought. And the 1330 pinion yoke I needed is a little cheaper than the 1350 yoke I just bought (1350 is an overkill upgrade for what this car is doing anyway). Things were just fine with my old 1310 yoke/u-joints. Okay not so short of a story but it had a great ending and I wanted to share. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3707.jpg Got the oil cooling system finished and buttoned up consisting of a good sized Earl's cooler, Mocal 180* thermostat, 17 feet of Aeroquip -10AN stainless hose, 10 fittings, and Moroso remote oil filter system. Fired up the motor and it ran like a champ and got up to proper temp and pressure. First time I'd heard the kitten purr in almost 3 months. :unibrow: The system added just under 2 quarts to the total amount of oil being used. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3718.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3721.jpg Very tight fit. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3724.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3728.jpg Todd -- Rich says hello. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3730.jpg We ended with the new driveline and cleaned up exhaust all done and called it a night. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF3733.jpg Back at it this weekend! :lateral: |
Looks great Dave! Your motor will thank you for that oil cooler on those hot track days in the middle of the desert. Your Mocal T-Stat looks very similar to the Derale I bought:
http://www.etrailer.com/p-D25719.html Drive shaft looks right at home too. Glad it fit, cause I know how mad you get about eBay deal fail... (teasing Bro!) |
Looking good! Tru dat Ron. That ought to take care of the 91deg next Saturday.
|
Nice updates Dave, car sounds wicked as always
|
Dave it looks like you did a nice job mounting the cooler. Plus on the drive shaft don't you love it when a plan comes together even if you didn't plan it or something like that! :goofy: Very Nice.
|
Not bad for a couple California rednecks....:D
|
Lookin' good
So whats left to do? |

Nice upgrades too. You should really find a way to get the one header tube off the pan or heat wrap that tube . That's just added unwanted heat to the oil not to mention that it could rub a hole from vibration, if its pushing hard enough on the pan..Just my 2 cents |

Yeah I lucked out on the shaft. But I love rollin the dice on ebay parts. It's just a fun part of life for me. Sometimes it works and others it don't. But I think I've "won" more than I've "lost" so far. Quote:

And I tend to agree with you. I guess we will run the first day next Sat and then check it before Sunday. Might have to eventually re-route it. That damn dipstick tube was part of the issue too. Good thing we didn't go -12AN lines otherwise it woulda been really tough. |
Good stuff Dave, that cooler will definitely be beneficial for you. How much do you think the aluminum driveshaft helps? I've thought about getting one myself as the 1LE Camaros came with aluminum driveshafts from the factory...so there are used ones out there to be had.
Look forward to seeing your mods that are going to be done this weekend. |
Amazing what a 5 dollar can of bbq paint can do them thar pipes!:D

Disagree with that logic. Once you start pushing factory capacities and racing, it's time for a matching driveshaft that is engineered to take the abuse intended. A driveshaft failure ain't pretty.:D
|
Dude, that thing sounds pissed off uncorked. Great progress on the upgrades, and good luck this weekend on gettin her done. Just checked your last email , my project is in the "pro-parts collecting" stage so I'm in no hurry for the trans.
Kick ass SeaBass! DW |

And IMOHO Once you get to a certain point... in most cases it's not one thing that makes a big change, it's all the little changes that add up |

I don't know the last time I read about a twisted DS on the PT forums... On Yellowbullet or LS1tech? Yeah, plenty. Quote:

Agreed, and I'm really just adding little things for now .... and it's fun to add little things here and there.. One big thing left (hopefully at some point) is to add a full frame. Working on that plan but I like trying to compete with my stock sub and leafs for now. But all that stuff is moot unless you are working on your driving and practicing to get better and learn your car. |
Looks awesome Dave. Enjoy!!!

I wouldn't rank it high on the priority list I don't think, unless you were at a point where you thought the stock DS wasn't going to hold. Unless you found a great deal on one, I would probably do it later. My stock steel DS was doing just fine, but since I needed a change in length I decided to shop for a "deal" and got lucky.[/QUOTE] Quote:

From the rpms I've heard this machine doing... a stock DS is no match! :D Don't forget that all DS are rated in RPMS and have maximums that should be adhered to.

Nice car!

I'll consider myself fortunate to have lasted this long with my stocker. Quote:

We are up! Minor details then " Back in the game"! Race car now, with licence plates.:D More beer!...
|
Nice! Im stoked for you guys. Hope all goes well this upcoming weekend, and the car runs smooth. Richie hopefully you wont be working; just drinkin!
|
Looks and sounds awesome:thumbsup:
I would dent that header and get it off your oil pan. That is transferring some serious heat into that oil pan. |
Wish I could see this bad boy run this weekend!
Since I wasn't gonna make it with my car I'm spendin time with my Bro and Dad at the Reno Air Races. Kick some but out there! |
