Ron, keep thinking as long as it's taking you to build this car, by the time you're finished, everyone will be racing one of these. LMAO

I am only one guy, with a big family and 10 cars. Its a wonder I get anything done. I did get my uppers moved, wwwaayy easier then the lowers, I just had to redrill the holes into the Sutton special place. I welded 1"x1/4" fat bar to the outside of the control arm mounts, just to give some support with the holes the close together.

Just teasing you Ron. Keep up the good work.

"Frankenstude" took 7 years to complete. When I wrote the article, I used the phrase from "Young Frankenstein"...... "OH Sweet Mystery of Life at Last We've Found You". LOL

Holy wheel travel Batman, that tire is hitting everything in the Batcave. A lot of work to do here.

Tuckin' some tars!

57hemicuda 02-29-2016 05:53 PM

At ride height it doesn't look so crazy, from droop to full compression, it has 6.5" of travel. Is all up into the sheetmetal, hope I can pull this off.

wheel turning issues means one thing: vehicle purpose change. Make it a land racing missile with a TT LSX.

Looking forward to seeing how you make this work. :headscratch:

Sieg 03-01-2016 10:36 PM

Bump stops are your friend Ronnieson.

57hemicuda 03-02-2016 02:52 AM

I will be running bump stops, but if I don't get every inch of travel available to me, My teacher, Mr. Sutton will smack me on the back of the hand with a ruler.:twak:

1coolC2 03-02-2016 08:51 AM

Ron,

Glad to see your back on the car! Suspension is looking great, don't worry about the tire clearance, a couple of good tugs on the steering wheel and she will make room ha ha. Need to catch up with ya, I'll give you a call soon.

Jeff

Hackery 2.0, I guess when you put them in the weeds you should expect such things

I love your fabrication but I think you secretly like bodywork more than you let on. :underchair: ;)

57hemicuda 03-03-2016 05:54 PM

The bend and stretch is complete, 3.75" of up travel, at full lock it hits nothing. Check out at full compression, the relationship between the bottom of the fender and tire.

Hotrod1 03-03-2016 08:31 PM

what if u turn and hit a bump?

preston 03-03-2016 09:29 PM

Yes that is how you know you are doing it right, when the limit of your travel is the top of fender. In fact if I follow the Sutton philosophy, I may end up raising my ride height in order to get more travel. Remember the G-Force Cuda, where they used reverse Superbird style scoops over the tires ? They said a major reason for that styling exercise was for tire clearance.

57hemicuda 03-04-2016 05:45 AM

Big American Bulges sure helped me out on this car. The bulges are so large that the tire turned all the way doesn't even get close to the skin of the fender, now the lip of the fender is a different story, it has a credit card thickness between it and the tire.

I had to limit my Mustang with bump stops, because I blistered the paint in the top of the fender.

Won't that evaporate under load in a turn?

57hemicuda 03-04-2016 02:36 PM

Have to remember, these parts are just plugs. The molds will be made off the finished surface of the plug, then the part will pull out of the mold. Once the plug is mudded up, primed several times and painted it's surface will get much thicker, giving me a lot of leeway in where to thicken or thin out the critical rub areas. This 6" of travel is a bit of a ball buster though.

gofastwclass 03-04-2016 05:04 PM

Got it. In the back of my mind I knew but keep forgetting that very important detail. Not sure why, I've built stuff with fiberglass before.

Awesome fabrication, this baby will be a beast.

57hemicuda 03-05-2016 02:11 PM

Ready for mud

Great work Ron , this is gonna be crazy

Chassisworks 03-07-2016 11:50 AM

Is there enough clearance at full compression for the the back of the fender to not hit the ground?

Its exactly a 1/2" between the bottom of the fender and the ground at full compression. Ron Sutton aggressive race mode. Totally adjustable with bumpstops. Reinstalled 19x12 ZO6 wheels on the front, with the new enlarged wheel openings. They clear pretty easily, will hit the top of the fender at full compression. Bump stops are helpful.

Ok. I did a couple of schemes on Ron's car for him and he seemed partial to the Follmer car scheme which is different than the Donohue car in where the colors break and has more white. Which One?

Your car looks much better.

mike343sharpstk 03-10-2016 10:46 AM

Nobody has mentioned the Breedlove AMX. Pretty much the same horizontal color breaks as the Kaplan Javelins.
I like this car a bunch, and I've seen it in person many times, it's Amazing.
No bad choices here, all options are cool, and will certainly add to the attention grabbing properties this car will undoubtedly have.:flag2:

What if you slanted the stripes to the rear so it looks like it's in motion?

Got one side finished, turned out really well, panel gaps etc. are amazing for such a butchered up mess. Trying to decide whether move on to the other side or kill myself. Hate body work!!!!

onelapduster 03-12-2016 05:04 PM

But its so damn cool! Closer to being finished. Was the decoupled three link rearend finished up?

57hemicuda 03-12-2016 06:14 PM

The rear stuff is pretty buttoned up, at least the fab work. I think I will rough in the quarters next, before I send the fenders off to pull molds off of.
There is so much left to go, its kind of overwhelming. Slow and steady.

57hemicuda 03-19-2016 12:30 PM

Just found this picture, what a shame I didn't find this first, I could have just converted my Mustang into an AMX
