Diffuser is 90 percent done. Just waiting to figure out where the exhaust is going before putting the final touches on it.
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psgcwgh5mh.jpg I also started making what is, hopefully, the last decent sized fab project - a rear spoiler. Ordinarily, I would prefer the clean look without anything on the back of a '65, however the front valance is 2" lower and adds a ton of visual weight, and I felt I needed to do something to the rear to help match that. I like the way the Camaro spoilers bolt on, so I started making something similar. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...pshzbon5az.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...pshjollcrx.jpg |
The diffuser looks good, Matt. Not sure on the spoiler but you're the designer so I'll be patient. I'm definitely curious to see what you come up with. Good luck!
|
Diffuser looks hot, you are creative buddy...
|
What are you doing for a fuel tank, stock location? Looking really good!
 |
Diffuser looks great but has it been proofed yet?
|
I like the rear spoiler, I think it should be taller to match the roof line. Maybe a side shot is in order. Oh and thanks for not doing the Tyler dip in the center. : )
Doing good work over there. How is everyone? |

Shop is busy, but Dick can't find a good body guy... Like they just all either don't exist or if they do, they've gone into construction for the time being. |
Car looks great Matt. Love the diffuser. I'm with Vince.....a little taller on the rear spoiler.

That's just funny as hell right there.... Matt --- I think I'd exhaust just aft of the rear wheel well opening if possible... and leave that diffuser stand on it's own. It's just great looking. Maybe get it hydrodipped in Carbon Fiber.... ?? |
Holy Cow----dude, you have become an amazing fabricator!
So impressive, everything that you have done. Especially love that diffuser you've put on the car. Your training is now complete---indeed you are powerful as the emperor has foreseen. (I just got done watching Star Wars with my son who hasn't seen it till now) Jedi. D |

Damn, that took a while just to think about. I think building something custom takes 10x as long, in time and/or $$$ as and aftermarket part that kinda, sorta fits. |

Could you run Spintech mufflers under the car so you can do side exit? They make 3 inch thick mufflers.

Another cool update on the Mustang Matt!
Agree with the others to make the spoiler more pronounced. I don't like the Shelby lip that I see others putting on the 65-66 Mustangs so as long as you avoid it looking like that :) |
Time for an update. The car currently looks less complete, but we're spraying the spot prime/final prime tomorrow! I also have a rendering, so I all I need is an official project name and I will have a real deal pro touring car in the works.
http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps9j0rjoqb.jpg Gaps in the middle of being worked on. Had to add an inch to the bottom of the fiberglass bumper, and had to cut down an 1/8" off the side of the trunk to get the gaps we wanted. Jon took care of everything else. Here he is getting to be grumpy (which, I think, makes him happy) about the car not being ready for paint. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps19lfvxeu.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psedfypma7.jpg Here are some from about a month ago, right before Jon came back to paint the car. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psb6ne1fvq.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps97ujqzif.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps055om4b4.jpg And, one of the Camaro because Camaros are cool. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps588jpsoi.jpg |
#1 -- Is Jon moving back from Hawaii??
#2 -- Your Mustang is killer #3 -- Is it done yet? |
Quote:
#2 I hope working on it doesn't kill him. #3 it's only going to be done "soon" because I need something else to look at and cut up, or because I have so many more ideas that I need to build a V2.0. |

What? |
Nice
The Mustang looks great, The rendering is sweet :gitrdun: Looks like you are no longer a member of the Pro-Touring Jack Stand crowd
Thanks for the update Keith |
Did you install a sissy bar and a passenger seat big enough for me? Vomit bag receptacle? Looks great, love the stance...
|
Great work Matt!
|
Beautiful car Matt!
|
I think your hood gap is off by .001. Better get Grumpy on it :D
Looking good Matt  |

Man does it look good with those wide ass tires on the front. I'm excited to see it painted. Good luck, Matt!
|
Wicked!
I'd love to see the final of your radiator/shroud/intake set up. Looks really, really good Matt, nice job! |
Nice Job Matt, did you figure you would be doing this much of it yourself when you started? I like the rendering, its going to look slick.
|
Thank you guys for all the kind words!

Some how i missed the updated pics. Waaaay nice dude!!!!
So, if the muttstang and camaro reside next to each other in the garage, will they get along? or will one of them just not start or move mysteriously? Anyways, the rendering is one of my fave's, but the color combo won't be that? |

I guess its time for an update after a couple hundred some hours of body work and paint prep. this last month has been a great experience, of, once again learning why custom stuff takes so long. I'm thinking 10X the cost of a "bolt on" parts.
I had to make the bottom part of the rear bumper as well as build some lines to transition from the quarter extensions. Fun. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...pshzbon5az.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psceouqgon.jpg Jon pretty much sanded his ass off for a month and a half straight to get the car ready for paint, before heading back home to Hawaii. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps4dxfthgr.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psupnrjauf.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psvuvor94g.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps9vzhrbjm.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psqub1ihxn.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0hoggyw1.jpg Ok, now for colors! I've probably been driving myself, and everyone I know, crazy trying to find a white and blue that I think works together to create a vintage feel like the original Wimbledon White/Guardsman Blue cars. the '65 GT350s are iconic cars, and I think we can all close our eyes and imagine what they look like, which is great, but wimbledon white actually looks kind old, dirty, and brown in person, especially on an entire car. I never realized a lot of the newer whites lean towards a grayish, greenish tint, which isn't what I was looking for, so we did a couple spray outs and picked this color on the right of the test panel. It's just a tiny bit less brown, and a little brighter than Wimbledon white, which was the original color of the car, BTW. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psojwo5lhi.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psfgus8c2s.jpg http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/o...psakrpdrgl.jpg |
Go Matt Go!
Looking real good buddy. |
It's just fabulous! Good choice and reasoning on the white. I'm only pissed because Jon is laying on the beach now and I'm not.
|
Love the shade...congratulations, Matt!
Excellent choice! John |
Looks great Matt!!
|
That looks sweet Matt! You've done an excellent job. I can't wait to see it on the ground all painted with the wheels and tires on it.
|
PAINT??? No way!!!
Good Job guys |

Greg, you should go to the big Island. It is a place of miracles. The island has managed to turn Jon into a happy grump. |
