Remember when I picked this little gem up? :relax: It's been a while but I finally got around to posting some pictures of it. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...pscc9153b7.jpghttp://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps2cf0d56d.jpg For those that weren't with us in the best place in the world to go shopping, Mooresville NC, it's a NASCAR spec locker with Gleason REM polished gears and a Tex racing internal pump driven off the pinion. When I was there I couldn't resist purchasing a better air box than the one I had. I paid to much for it but it was new, natural carbon, light as hell and well a NASCAr part. I was like a moth flying into a light just couldn't stop myself. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps45191227.jpghttp://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps6987ca25.jpg This week another couple parts showed up. Nothing special just some brake ducts from LG. But they will be cool. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...ps76f19d97.jpg I've been down at the shop a couple days a week last month. I pulled the rear housing and suspension out and trimmed up the rear wheel lips. My inner wheelwell and my quarter, unlike a camaro, opens up and has more clearance above the wheelwell lip. So the lip is the closest point of contact. I trimmed it back to .25" thick. Then it mates with the inner wheelhouse going vertical from the remaining lip. I'll get a couple of decent pictures of it next week. But the tire has nothing but a flat wall to rub against. Today I put all the suspension and my wheels back in and cycled the suspension through full compression and full compression on one side with the other side at varying heights. Here is a picture of the closest the tire gets. This is about ride height on the drivers side with the passengers side fully compressed. At this point the top of the tire is tipped out and the widest part of the tire is right at the closest point of contact to the body. Matt A likes to call this the Hell fit clearance. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...psfa7c8866.jpg |
WOW! That tight. Nice!

Nice parts. And great original ideas. I had all of those a long time ago.

It was the fact that you dared to step outside the box and build a first gen Camaro that inspired me to build my car.:lmao: |

Hey no one forced you to take the 5 year plan instead of the 3 year plan. :D |

I used that exact same pile of parts on my Mustang. That third member looks exactly the same, pump and all. My only advise I would give, is to take that soft locker out before you install it, there is NOTHING soft about it. Its action was so violent in the turns when it engaged and disengaged that it upset the car. A few times when I was on the ragged edge it started to spin the car. Just my experience, and I was running street tires, replaced it with a Waveloc which worked great. Sucked, had to resaftey wire all those ARP bolts.
I can show how to fix those tire clearance issues, it only requires sawzall and a welder. LOL |
Rob, I am just happy to see that the center section (would be called a C section in Dave's thread) make it back to CA. I thought for sure it would have exited the bottom of that rotted storage box on the side of the truck.
I am not too far out picking up one of those myself. |

I have the same center section with pump. For now I'm leaving the pump off but I'll post up when I get running to see how violent mine is. I'm hoping I got lucky and have the softer springs but assume they will need to be changed You're lucky you have straight panel on those qtr's and not a small flare to hang things up. What's going to be your next car...a Toyota, Nissan or Honda????? |
