70TWO NOVA 07-05-2007 06:38 PM

We painted my brothers Nova in an old (1954-89) factory GM color. It is called Linen White and is one of the most pure white colors Ive seen. I guess it just reinforces the fact that you dont need a crazy metallic factory color to make your g-machine look good.

I'm a big fan of "Mineral Grey" that was used on the Mustang in '05. It's not a very common color. It has a sort of earthy look to it but still pops in sunlight because it's metallic. I know a certain editor that likes this color too...(does he still have his stang?)

The top color on my Mustang is a new GM color, I believe it's "Granite Gray Metallic."

Here's a close-up shot of it:

I'm turning in your shot and an unused shot of my '69.. I have no idea which one Johnny will pick.

You need to get your car done so it can get some REAL ink...

you might want to throw in the story that off the shelf oem colors can be modified to better suit the "look" you want. my fullsize blazer was a kia slime green color, that i changed the white toner to a bright yellow in order to exagerate the gold "flop" from the pearl in the color. this works great if you keep the formula exactly as oem, yet change the toner in the formula....makes it really easy to duplicate when repair work is needed.

as for some cool oem colors, nissan frontier has a earthy green, kinda like peral metallic army green, really similar to jonny51's rendering color. jaguar has a burnt orange like penny, but its a euro color, hard to find a formula for.... its got more "richness" to it, smaller metallic, really cool color when comparing it to eclipse or prowler orange. the audi and porsche silvers have a nice flair to them, without major metallic "sparkle". chrysler and ford both have tri coat reds that have a tinted clear mid coat....basically a factory kandy. lexus had a pearl white that uses silver/white pearl.... it doesnt have the "dirty" look to it like most pearl whites.

if a customer has a general color in mind, i usually try to find all the variations of it and pick the best one... its amazing how different the same general color can be.... like the burnt oranges, metallic greys, light golds, slime greens, etc. i will usually do like steevo said, and go right to the bike chips when looking for a variation of a color, yamaha R1 blue is one of the best blues out there, but some companies formula is way off. kawasaki has a metallic green that came on zx12's.... a little brighter than an "earthy" color.... but still a clean color. i also look at hich end car company chips.... lambo, jag, mercedes, ferrari, etc.... along with the not so common manufactures...daewoo has some good variations of colors.

It should be done in about 3 weeks or so. It's going back to a friends paint and body shop next door to CAR for some paint fixes and milar coatings on Tuesday. As soon as it's in my hands you guys can have it for a few days. :unibrow:
