Note the raised wheel arches and rear wing.:unibrow:

I'm diggin' the subtle wheel arches but the wing just doesn't work for me. Nice car for sure (before & after the crash).

What is the story behind the crash? I watched the video a couple of times and it seemed like the accelerator stuck while he was trying to brake, it was weird that the car continued to accelerate after he initially deployed the brakes. I agree with others, he was lucky to hit the water barrier and not the concrete wall. I can easily imagine this Nova looking like the red Camaro the drunk guy crashed into a tree. Nice excuse to rebuild the car ;-)

Yeah, that's where I was going with my comment. Had this been a late model car, it probably would've been pretty jacked up.

No, the throttle did not stick. Too fast and the wrong gear. That section of the Autocross from Hell is strictly second gear only. Watch it again. In the 1st run he takes the car up to the top of second gear. In the 2nd run, Billy upshifts to 3rd and then downshifts back into 2nd gear. Which sends the revs back up. That, in turn, overpowered the locked up front brakes. The rear wheels are literally pushing the car along with no room to spare. The front wheels even bounce off the pavement a coupla times.
Ordinarily, the right thing to do would be to release and apply the brake pedal to get the front wheels spinning and steering. In this case, that would have probably aimed the sliding car forward of the water barrier--right into the wall. The track has now been filled over with dirt. RIP Autocross from Hell. Here's my car on the same track for those who have not seen it before. Umm, yeah. That's an automatic! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZELv-yxxUr0 |
