all i was sayin was its not real. 1320video is my good friend and thats his vette. the sound is a diesel truck. i have a 08 duramax to. no worries, the video was made to piss people off is all, and it works.

Personnaly, I find automotive endeavors like the diesels featured above interesting and am happy see individuals trying a less traveled path. This along with work with other fuels (i.e. propane, ethanol) all add to the overall industry. I’m amazed at how turbo technology has come along – nitrous etc. Thanks for the post – interesting stuff…

Besides all of that; horsepower is a product of torque... Simple mathematics. The only thing that has really been holding diesels up is this stoic mindset that they're truck/tractor motors only, and moreover, once you start applying modern cylinder head, injector, and rotating assembly (lightweight) designs to the diesel mills, they can really haul ass. Just my .02  "A few short years ago the idea of a diesel BMW would be unthinkable, let alone one which could sprint from 0-62 in 6.7 seconds and surge on up to an electronically limited maximum of 155mph. But given that you can enjoy that level of performance allied to a combined official fuel consumption figure approaching 45mpg, you wonder why anyone would choose petrol." http://www.carkeys.co.uk/road_test/bmw/7707.asp 5-Series too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLJJncghkhs |
its a very european thing to like diesels and an american one to hate them! when the germans and french put a diesel in a truck it is about 3 litres or so and will still pull-8or9000lbs and last for 300000miles, when one of the big three build a diesel its about 6-8 litres and wont pull a hell of a lot more and is nowhere near as refined as the technology has never been pushed over here, bmw used to advertise their diesel engine on tv with a coin stood on its edge resting on the valve cover while the motor was running! they are that smooth and quiet, and remember what has been winning at the lemans 24 hr for the last two years, an audi diesel! nothing can touch it! they will never sound as good as a lopey cam in a big block though:D

I was wondering how you would fit a diesel engine in a vette?? With out it sticking out of the hood anyways? |
Dear: R67Chevelle:
Thanks for the response to my letter: Your a Cocky Little Guy aren't you. If you had taken the time to read my post before trying to be smart/clever or whatever you tried to do, you would have seen I was only pointing out that while the sound a diesel engine makes in a car is not always what we have associated with high performance, diesel engines can, and are becoming pretty impressive in the all types of motor-sports. I doubt you took the time to even watch the video's validating this fact. I personally think Gale is carving out an underdeveloped niche in racing, and is getting his technology into a position to be a dominant player in the future regarding diesel Technology. So far he is Building impressive Drag, Road Racing and Land Speed Racing vehicles, proving conceptually that people can have it all in a car/truck, AND still have acceptable fuel efficiency at the same time. Case in Point- The "Greens" have made it perfectly clear that the CAFE standards are going to go up, possibly way up, in our lifetime. In case your not old enough to remember the Wonderful Muscle Car's of the Mid 70's, let me clue you in, they were pitiful at best and were driven into almost extinction as we knew them in the 60's. We are FINALLY getting fun cars to drive again. Power is easy to make and it's fun again to burn down tires without putting water on the ground and jumping up and down on the rear bumpers of cars trying to get the tires to spin. Ahhh! The sweet smell of burning rubber back in the air. (Nirvana) Hybrids are not going to be a viable option for most types of cars, because other than pushing a tiny car around for basic transportation they just don't have the grunt to be sporty to drive, or God Willing you want to drive a SUV or haul a Boat, Car or Tractor. Fuel Cells are interesting, but the infrastructure is not in to support them, nor as far as I have seen do they have the power to do what we need done, or that we want to do. Solar Power, nice thought, not anytime soon for any real impact in the market. Gee what does that leave us with? (I bet you can figure this one out) Diesel! You have the Torque to keep the semi trucks delivering food, The Trains Delivering everything Coast to coast. Small cars that get great Milage. Mid-Size Cars that get good milage, and performance cars that give us something to have fun with if gas cost $8 a gallon. Don't get me wrong, Gasoline will be around a long time, but the milage vs. the performance Sucks compared to diesel in so many applications. How much Heavy Dark Smoke did you see coming out of the Banks Hot Rod truck? Almost nothing! He knows what we don't like about diesels and he's finding ways to fix them. Listen to the sound of the, "SideWinder", as it Hauling Ass on a Road Race Track. It sounds damn good for a "POS" Diesel. I love gasoline, but if I could find something that would do the same thing cheaper, I might just have to take a hard look at it. While I'm planning my current ride, I'm investigating everything. If I'm going to drop a chunk of cash on my ride, I'm going to do everything I can to get the best stuff I can in it. Yes, I'm sure Gale makes a good margin on the products he sells. Good for him, I've helped out his bottom line myself, but if you think he is doing all this research and development in diesel while letting his Gasoline Product line lay virtually stagnant just because the current Diesel profit margin on his parts is good, I think you are missing a bigger picture. Gale is positioning himself in the Automotive Industry to being one of the foremost authorities in Performance Diesel Engine Technology. Imagine being the, "GO TO", guy if there is ever a crisis in practical energy needs for this country. He's the guy that has done it all when it comes to the R&D efficiency for practical transportation technology for the average Joe, by proving he can do so much more than would ever be asked. (World Speed Records w/ Great Fuel Efficiency and dependability, Great Diesel Drag Racing Times, Great Road Racing handling and speed) Are you starting to get the bigger picture? I posted my information for those who hadn't seen some of the neat things out there with Diesel Technology. Heck maybe everyone here has seen it all. I don't know. I like most of the people here, and I like to do what I can to contribute if possible it is a great site. ==============================================Now to your post to me. To each his own, but if your going to take a bite out of my ass at least make a coherent post. ============================================== Your examples prove you have a poor understanding of what my post was about. Let's start with this one. Keep Pissing Contest, (Your Words Not Mine) in mind when you read this. Get a life.... <-------- That's really clever, is it original, and it's based on what? The sentence structures and spelling are challenging to deal with, but I'm not going to make any assumptions, as English might be your second or third language. "I really like diesels and granted they make some real power, but a diesel is designed for lots of low end torque.... Pure physics... Go get a new 08 truck or car with a Diesel... No more milage and efficency like there use to be..." ????? ============================================== Please take the time to watch this video and see if it helps explain what I was trying to say earlier, and why I don't know why you addressed my post this way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9eB4ilu_xQ Please listen to the the specs about the, "Sidewinder Engine". It's NOT the Diesels you are thinking about, that is WHY I MADE MY POST. ============================================== In addition to what I already said, your busting my jewels with this sentence. It reminds me of the saying, "A Woman's place is in the home/kitchen, barefoot and Pregnant." You write: Diesel has its place, but in a vette.... come on.... Gas engines will always..... "always dominate drag racing" (I can see it now JOHN FORCE RUNNING DIESEL POWER BECAUSE NITRO SUCKS)..... A diesel is still a diesel.... Seems funny the rave over diesels. I have seen more guys destroy their trucks by adding all the power stuff and blowing transmissions, diffs, and engines and get really pissed when GM, Ford and Dodge won't cover these under warrenty and talk all kinds of crap how they got screwed... ====== The second half of this paragraph I can only address by saying, I think I am reading handicapped, and your comparison is not logical. You say, "I can see it now JOHN FORCE RUNNING DIESEL POWER BECAUSE NITRO SUCKS". I could say, "Put Diesel Fuel in JOHN FORCE Nitro Engine Funny Car, and I bet a 1982 Diesel Oldsmobile 98 with a converted gasoline 350, would beat him down the quarter mile in 25 seconds flat." (HOOOO-WAAAA!) This in fact would be true, but it doesn't add anything to your or my discussion. Do you understand? ============================================== With regards to why Banks Engineering is apparently moving away from new gasoline oriented products. Maybe you have the inside skinny with Gale. It would be impressive. "Diesel drags are pretty cool, but you do not know the demographics about why Banks does some much diesel stuff right now... Diesel performance parts are simple, cheap with huge profit..." ============================================== Finally: Don't make this into a pissing contest.... Blessings,[/QUOTE] =======================--------------------------- At least I think I know who would be pissing, and who would be pissed on. Blessings, Ty *** Note to self, maybe reading english in a second language for me? |
