Will the New hoods work with hinges, or are they totally lift off?

I Remember a while back several people asked about Fenders, Deck lids, Quarter panels and doors, and you were not certain about the doors because of risk of injury on a crash.

Don't all these cars have a crash plate inside the doors? I was thinking it would be no different then making a fiberglass/kevlar door for a vette.

Ah, yes, Ty O'neal. I remember you well from your earlier queries. Good to hear from you again! All of our hoods right now are bolt on using the stock hardware (or aftermarket billet hinges of course).
Deck lids are coming as well as rear spoilers and cf tubing with spherical rod end fender braces. I've had several people ask about fenders and doors, so here's the thing. I can do it, but I would like to really find out what the market is for them and what price people would be willing to pay. A lot of people wish for things, but when it comes down to lightening their wallets, they disappear. The other part of the equation is that These are big parts that I don't want to warehouse until someone coughs up the dough for them every 5 months. I just tlalked to a guy today as a matter of fact that is very interested in persuing fenders and maybe door skins. There will be a good amount of development work to make sure fenders fit properly while having the structural stiffness required to box in the firewall to core support span that the steel fenders achieve. One way would be to use a steel fender as a donor and remove the steel sturctural part that the hood hinges attach to and use a good 3M adhesive to bond the cf fender to this piece. This requires some work on the part of the consumer. Or, if there is a way to get just that piece from Golden Legion, or whomever is reproducing fenders in Taiwan to sell me them in quantities and I would bond the cf fender to them and sell the parts turn key. I'm a little concerned about heat from the engine bay wanting to separate the joint over time form constant expansion and contraction, but I know there are some really good adhesives being used in the auto industry. I would want to run some tests. For doors, yes, there could be a steel bar through the door for safety and structure, but again, no slam dunk for development. I think the way things are giong in the pro-touring market, I will eventually need to do this. For the immediate future, I need to recoup my start up costs as fast as possible, so I can do these bigger projects. Perhaps, I can get some assistance from the bleeding edge pro-touring guys who are leading the charge by doing some of the footwork?
At the very least, I would like to get a list together of interested parties, to focus in on the market.

Hi Kevin,

That's a good question. Now that we have the vent delete clowl panels that are smooth, it would be a nice addition. I will need to revise the mold and do another production run, but I want to reduce my inventory before I do that. Plus, I have a lot of other parts that take priority right now that we have in development. I can't really say when we will get to that. I can let you know if you are interested.

Oh yeah, Ty, with all my rambling I forgot your last question. The new hood with no understructure is $1499 and is only available in 100% carbon fiber and weighs about 17 lbs. We don't have them up on our site yet, but you can call our toll free number to order one.

well the shear numbers of 64-69 mustangs out there just dwarfs the camaro numbers so it would seem to me to be the next logical choice

well that and the fact i want one for my 66 hehe

also would it be possible to do a shelby style nose lower valance and a set of fenders etc in CF

you see i have a custom inner fender well on my 66 and would like cf fenders .

as you see its smooth across the top of there and the front core is tig welded to that.. i would like a fender copy with just a 8th inch lip that i can pre drill holes along that in .. then when the fender and engine compartment are painted i can just rivit the fender down along this edge instead of having the huge ugly bolts that are stock.

I hope this is'nt a dumb question. I want to have all gaps on my car 3/16 . My question is, are the edges around the perimiter of the hood thick for sanding. My reason for asking sometimes when I do these hoods for customers I have to sand the edges and they get to thin. And then I have a structural issue . I always said it would be nice to have it a bit thick so that you can sand the edges to achieve a nice tight gap and have plenty of material on the edges left to keep it structuraly sound. Would love to have this setup for my 69:hail: :cheers:

Sorry it took me awhile to post a reply. Been busy makin' patterns for new stuff. We didn't leave the edge thick for sanding, it's more for structure, but if you wanted to, you could certainly add some body filler to the edge after roughing it up to close the gap as tight as you want, then paint it body color if you were going to paint the top side of the hood (& maybe leave cf stripes). I would suggest using the fiberglass filler as bondo would chip too easily. Since you have a shop, you might have a better idea. Would love to hear your suggestions.

We plan on making Mustang parts next. You're right, there are a lot out there and it's the next natural progression. For your project, could you use a strip of carbon fiber sheet, say 1/16"-1/8" thick and just wide enough to dress up the flat top edge? If you want full on carbon fiber fenders, that would be costly and time consuming to produce, but I have a lot of Camaro guys asking for that. Let me know your thoughts, I'm not quite clear on what you want to do, but I'm all ears.
