Sorry, I just did this last night. Here are is a quick example of how I clean up my work with PS. Here is my sketch scanned in...

Next, I crop it. The biggest help I think is the ability to adjust the levels. It brings it back to more like the original. Then I clean up (erase) the background, add a few high lights and touch up a few spots, and it looks like this...

After that, I can put it on a drawing with what ever type of background I want. So the majority of it is still hand drawn, it is just cleaned up digitally. Hope that helps.
