All good suggestions...(especially the BUILD BOOK one!) :-)

I thought an F-Series generation truck show would be good as well...

Product Vs. Price

James:

I know pricing is a big deal, and this could spark a major discussion, but it's imperative that manufacturers and dealers find a way to wean people off buying a vehicle for "the deal." The bottom line is, you are going to be driving this vehicle for a long time; you don't drive the "price" every day back and forth on the highway...Price is no doubt a consideration, but it cannot be the sole deciding factor when purchasing a new vehicle...safety, features, comfort, and convenience are what should come first.

That's a problem going on right now...everyone's rushing to get a 4-cylinder car, but as soon as gas prices, drop, and they are already, people will want what they want instead of what they think will save them a few bucks, and in about a year, many will be hating their decision to buy an entry-model to save a few bucks on gas...

Any thoughts?

Yes, Yes, & Yes.
In addition, a Car show.

What would make you want to attend a 2009 F-150 consumer event at a dealership? Would you want to be the first to drive the car? Have good food and drink? Meet a local or national celebrity? Have a chance to win a great prize or some money? Would you go for charity?

BJ Killeen:)

What crowd are you trying to bring in? Construction workers, farmers, Haulers, or ??? At Lat-g, you will find a common thread of all around automobile enthusiast. It might help if we knew where you planned on having this event. Different states....different needs and wants.

09 F150

If I was looking at buying a new F150, I'd want to see a couple of modified ones to see how they look. A 2wd lowered, with nice wheels and paint and also a FX4 with at least a 4 inch lift with all the goodies.
It would definitely raise my interest.

I would find some way to reach out to local tradespeople to get them to come in to look at the 09 from a "work truck" standpoint, and in particular,I'd ask whomever manages fleet sales for you, to get you a list of your biggest (historical) fleet buyers and invite them for whatever event you do decide to have. Call all of the local refitters too (the guys who rebody trucks for special purpose use ie, electrical, utility companies, etc).

I think that trying to reach out to the general consumer right now (discretionary sales) is not going to be as productive for you, the numbers are just too low in sales of trucks for personal use, and the buyers that are in the market for personal use right now are snapping up incredible deals on the many low, low mile used 07/08 trucks that are out there. Look at the Killeens on Lat-g! Say hi to Scott for me!

If they would come back out with a Lightning or the SVT Sport-Trac concept they showed a while back, I would cross town to ride with a good driver or drive one on an auto-cross course but as far as celebrities, there would have to be a free rock concert with free beer for me to show up and look at new F150s. A car show would be good and would draw car buying yokels.

Just my $.02
