My new Mazda 3 has a red tri-coat. Looks like a normal red until it is in the sun.
I love it. However it is one solid color. Kris, With you all already having a two tone paint, graphics, and custom wheels, I'm not sure this car needs any more action. You don't want the car to be shown on pimp my ride do you? Just my thoughts. R.P. |
I would assume his lifetime guarantee means if anything he did screws up he will fix it. A chip or scratch in the paint is not one of his screwups. That stuff is a bitch to match . Two people might have entirely different opinions of what looks OK to them. I did a frame off resto on a 69 Z28 a few years ago. I brought the sheetmetal to the painter and had all the jambs sprayed them took them back and hung them on the car. I brought the car back to the painter and they did the final alignment of the sheetmetal and painted the car. When I go to pick up the car it turns out he is pissed at himself for leaving a fender bolt loose. He opened the passenger door and popped the paint on the leading edge of the door where it hit the fender that was sticking out. I said don't worry, just brush touch the spot and rub it. He wants it perfect so he is going to spot paint it. I come back and the door is another color. He then reshoots the entire side of the car. By now the paint has the thick look, all my plated fender bolts are painted Lemans blue and there is overspray under the car. He thought the car looked great, I hated the car and sold it to a friend that ended up repainting it. It is just two peoples different opinions on what is nice. Kandy looks killer on a trailer queen but if you are going to put miles on the car it will get chipped or scratched at some point. If it were my car with candy paint and it got chipped I would probably just leave it as is before trying to get it matched just to avoid anything happening along the lines of what happened to my car.

Charlie's Words come from a wise man. It really is not a matter of "if" it will get chiped or scratched, but "when". And the touch up will suck.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Truth be told, me and my dad enjoy driving the car too much to worry about a show/trailer-only paint job. I'll be taking a look at my other options today though.
Thanks again! Kris |
Kandys are almost impossible to touch up nicely. I found out the hard way. I drive my car hard, at times at the track, and it has about 20 chips on it. IMO, its better to leave it as is than to try to fix the chips. The chips on it are easily seen, but I will have to live with that.

it can be touched up, its just hard. we had a denali that was broke into and damaged. after 3 weeks in the booth with people with skills the spots were undetectable.

ask the guy what the lifetime warranty includes... i stand behind my work for a reasonable amount of time... usually about 2 years... figure if its have any "issues" show up from the paint job... it will most likley be in that amount of time..... be leary of a place that will offer too much just to get the job in the door.
and with your time frame.... i would really suggest keeping the job as simple as possible. hmmmm i think i allready said this before :unibrow: |
Okay, got the car in the shop today. I've decided against Kandy colors, just going to go with similar colors to what it has now. Me and my dad love what's on it, just not how it was done. So I'll be doing a bright Porsche red on it again, possibly with some pearl. Didn't want to risk changing the whole look of the car, especially now that it's been on the cover of a magazine.
Thanks for all the input though! Kris |
pearl+red= pink
pearl+black=ghetto fabulous brown if your set on a pearl red... find a factory formula.... adding pearl in a mid coat makes it turn pink. there is a black pearl color that honda uses that is about the best pearl black for not looking brown. i personally still think solid colors with super straight bodywork... look the bestest  just my opinion |
Noted!
Again, thanks. I'm still new at this...so to the pros: :hail: I like solid colors too. I just hope the body comes out nice this time! Kris |
