Well I cant say anything about the A/M boxes but really how specially tuned can they be? the OE specified different boxes to feel different -act faster on the performance cars so when saginaw builds different ones arent they specially tuned? not trying to argue here. I'm basically a cheap bastard and would just as easily pickup a boneyard box -IMO if the box isnt leaking its probably good as its not much of a wear item, but you do get what you pay for too. I'm actually looking for a third gen IROC or WS6 box for a chevelle of mine. good luck with your project just thought I'd post up a low buck option

I do appreciate the info and advice. I was not trying to shoot that down as an option. I did look at my local yards before deciding on a new unit. Because of what I saw available locally from those yards, that's what made me start looking at new units. Most everything around here has a ton of miles and may or may not need a rebuild anyway. As for the performance "tuning" of the aftermarket boxes, I have to think if all the internals are blueprinted and double checked for clearances and function that they would perform better than a stock mass produced box, if even just by a slim margin. I am all for the low buck options when I can get what I need. But sometimes I have to go the other route.

Thanks for the info Marty. That is great to have for ref.
