Yep, tires are incredibly important. Of course, you can cheat, and use R compound tires to pump up the numbers! It's been done before. And with racing slicks, if you are not WAY over 1 G, you should strongly consider selling the car.

Just keep in mind also, that "G" forces measured on a skid pad is only one aspect of how fast a car will ultimately be. Skidpads are steady state systems, meaning the car isn't going through transitions, such as bumps, or alternating turns, off-camber banking, etc. A skid pad is just like a chassis dyno, it shows potential, but doesn't always equate to how fast a car will go.

Jan: I can just see the picture.... After she collects herself, looks over at you with "that" look, you kind of say in a sheepish way, "gee, sorry honey, er, are you okay???" And then brace yourself for the shoulder to the ribcage (this is an automatic response for me now, like breathing my survival instinct has conditioned me to brace for impact!).

MEAN69 THATS SO TRUE....THE DYNO REFFERNCE..JUST BECAUSE IT MAY PULL A BIG NUMBER DOESNT MEAN ITS GOING TO WORK IN TOTAL FUNCTION THE WAY YOU WOULD HOPE.........WHILE FLOGGING THE CRAP OUT OF IT ON A ROAD COURSE............
