The fact is the economy is global now, and it only makes sense for a business to try to reduce their costs and make things where they can do it the cheapest. If you run a business and your competitor goes to China, what do you do? It's rare that you can appeal to the made in the USA crowd like say Edelbrock does and be successful. And for people who get political about this, do you think anything the administration has done has affected this at all? I know that in my industry, the concern goes way back, and let's be clear, the administration saving GM will have saved tens of thousands of jobs, even though the company had cut tens itself. What the jobs thing and manufacturing thing really comes down to is companies do not give a damn about their employees. It does not matter who is President, who runs congress, etc, if a company can make more money by doing something, they will do it. |

That's it. Now in that process of making something that people want, they grow, as they grow they require employees. We should all know this, but people all to often believe having a job is a right, and that jobs create business's. As an example. If jobs are the goal, you could simply hire a group of people to dig ditches and another crew to fill them in. |
Sorry guys, but we've been placed at a very unfair disadvantage of competition
we simply can not compete with. NAFTA opened the doors to it, and was Reagans' idea in 1979 and he worked to make it happen, finally resting the FINAL approval on a newly elected Clinton. Follow the NAFTA timeline, and you will see. The Chinese Trade Agreement in 2000 was the next big dent that REALLY screwed us IMO. Alot of people really have no clue about this. Ross Perot said, if this is approved all you will hear is a "Giant sucking sound". That will be all the jobs leaving America. The eternal , meaning NEVER expiring, Free Trade agreements we have , have placed US Manufacturing at a complete disadvantage with 3rd world slave labor wages. IMHO .....that's why the US Govt is not handling the Illlegal Immigration problem either....because it keeps some form of slave labor here in the US. People will usually buy what is cheapest to get to keep more money for other things. This is undoubtedly true, because Walmart has flourished to become the #1 GIANT retailer in the USA in such a short span of time. Walmart has bankrupted more US Based companies to ship their product oversea's to be produced in China then you want to know about. |

[QUOTE=sniper;245119]Let's be ultra clear. "SAVING" those jobs has cost many thousands of other jobs. Why? Because in order for the government to save those jobs, they had to first steal my money. Then they use that money at a rate of .10 on the dollar to distribute to whom they want to survive. So instead of me having a whole dollar to spend as I see fit the government takes my dollar, .90 cents is consumed in government burocracy, and .10 cents makes it to the "saved". Wonderful isn't it?
That is a lie plain and simple. Oh whoa is me. I am not sure what business you are in or what you do for a living, but let me give you a little hint of what a business is designed to do. And it's real simple because it is only one thing. MAKE MONEY. You were hired by your employer to make THEM more money. That's it. Now in that process of making something that people want, they grow, as they grow they require employees. We should all know this, but people all to often believe having a job is a right, and that jobs create business's. [QUOTE] So which is it, do we have american car manufacturers and the hundreds of thousands of associated jobs or do we lose them? That really was the choice and you can complain about oh my taxes, but look at some of the members of this very board who were sweating out if they would make it through or not. Like it or not the GM bail out saved their jobs, and those are real american people. Put yourself in that other persons position for a moment instead of worrying about your dime. Now the bank bailouts that's something else, and also something not even brought forth by the current administration. As far as what you say about business, I'm pretty sure we agree, as my whole point is business (not all but in general) does not care about workers, it cares about money, so if they can save money by moving their work, they will do so. Again this can be something where you have to look at the other side. For example, Boeing a huge manufacturer in this country and especially where I live, just announced that it won't be opening a second 787 line here in Everett, but instead will go to south carolina. On one hand it bothers me that they have no loyalty to this community, but on the other hand, thousands of people in south carolina will benefit. Granted as the distance grows outside of the united states, to say people in China benefitting my understanding of the matter weakens, but it's the same concept of, our community feeling like we lost jobs, and the belief around here that the company is outsourcing the work to cheap, unskilled labor. ps. I'm not a business owner but can certainly appreaciate how they end up being forced to go towards cheaper sources of labor/materials. I am though in an industry that is one of the big ones besides manufacturing to have been outsourced. |
Hello to all. The USA is the greatest country on earth, it just has had the worst government representing it. Where do we start to fix the country? To many jobs leaving and to many people coming in. Close off the southern border. Use people who are unemployed to build the border. Put the job out to bid out in the public eye and let the people chose who shall build.
I think all kids coming out of high school should do 2 years military service. These kids would only be used to prepare and provide for emergencies, i.e., hurricane, floods, fires, earthquake etc. They would also supply support and patrols for all borders. These kids would never see over seas active duty unless they volunteered for it. For all these mouths to feed, clothe and house, ONLY companies in the united states, using goods made in the united states employing citizens who are legal to work here and are documented would be allowed to bid for these contracts. This would be a start. Rich 68kmaro |
Don't know if I should laugh or cry but its way too true.
