I've had Town Cars and I would've done a 6 speed manual swap in a heartbeat.
Guys put 6 speeds in these much more complex modern day land yachts and really like the transformation. I own a black one myself and may do that swap. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...700312-1sm.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...inalDays07.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...mblemClose.jpg |
60's era continentals are nice. However I prefer the 1956 continental Mark II, but I am biased as we have one sitting under cover for future attention. I think I have some pix of it on my fquick garage.

Hey John, Are you sure it is a 68? 69 was the first year for the 460 if I remember right. If it's a 69 call me.

Pimp daddy John... those can be cool cruisers if done right. Heres one for inspiration. I cant remember who built it, but its worth a look. :unibrow:

we have been brain storming like crazy on this car. Jon has some tricks up his sleeve as usual but when this thing is done, it is going to be one bad ass cruiser! I will post pics up in the projects section as soon as we get going. I am taking this car on a Vegas trip rather Jon likes it or not.

Mobsteel is responsible for that car. As an owner of a continental, anyone trying to make a 6100lb automobile fast or handle is off their rocker.... |
Thanks for all the help guys! Some good info, with some good links. I found mobsteel while doing a google search, but I'm sure I'll have to call those guys if we need any advice since they've probably already sourced a lot for these cars.
Kevin, I double checked the DMV paperwork, but yes, it is a 68. There was a box in the trunk with small block valve covers, but I have no idea what was the motor that was in it before. I received the car, no motor, and a C4 trans tied up under neath it. The guy had a 460 built for it, and it sat on a stand for over a year with a new C6. We'll be using all of that in the 69 Mustang we're building. So I'll be hunting down a motor for this car if anyone has anything for sale. :unibrow: Rogue, thanks! I'll be PM'ing you for sure for help. I don't plan on spending a lot on this car, not more than 25K, that's for sure. We'll do most of the work for ourselves, so that should help. Just want to make it a cool, clean, cruiser for next Spring/Summer. I'm sure it will snowball to some extent, but hopefully not too far. The body is in excellent shape. One bad spot of rust on the passenger side rear door, but no biggie, we'll fix it up. One of the best things about this car is all the trim is in great shape, and everything is there. I'm missing the passenger side mirror, but that's about it. All the windows are in great shape. I can't believe someone else posted up they paid 1400 bucks for a windshield. Holy crap. I think the main thing I'm going to have to hunt down are a front end rebuild kit, bushings, power steering box, etc. I guess I could rebuild the box in it if I need too. Here are some photos of it as my guys have been stripping it and getting it ready to go to the body work tomorrow. All the interior is in my trailer going over to my interior guy tomorrow. As for the plans for the car.... It's going to be painted gloss black, with a white interior. All the chrome will be re chromed, and all the stainless will be re-polished. Something different: I'm actually going to stitch in inserts into the seats in the shape of the Flor de lis. The door panels have embroidery done in a diamond shape, so we'll use the flor de lis shape to replace those too. Something different. Kind of goes with the cruiser, greaser, tattoo style I plan for the car. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...eurDiLys-1.jpg I already found headliners, carpet kits, and new electric window kits on Ebay. I called Isis and we'll be using one of their kits in this car, along with Accuair to control the AirRide. (If anyone needs ISIS, let me know, we're putting together an order for 10 kits) I'm really thinking 22" Schott ModSports, or Schott Camber. I'm also keeping the whitewalls and the Lincoln caps so I can swap back and forth. No intention to do anything with this car but straight cruise! Justin, when we're done, we're taking this thing to the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, dropping it on the ground out front and slamming down down a shot of Jack to celebrate. :woot: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...n/DSCF2532.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...n/DSCF2531.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...n/DSCF2530.jpg |
