Chevy needs to step up to the plate DESPERATELY if they want to compete!
I believe Ford came out with a track pack Mustang as well. They also have a 6,500 dollar upgrade for one of their models that is 50 state legal and adds some great power as well. (I am a Chevy guy through and through, but Ford is making some killer rides lately.):_paranoid :willy: |
556hp z28 will be chevys answer.

You and I both know the Z28 (if it ever does show up) will not be aimed at the GT as Chevrolet already have the SS for that. Instead, I think any forced induction Camaro is going to be pointed into GT500 territory, and even then, who knows where Ford is going in the future with the new Coyote platform. They have already made it clear that the cylinder heads have full provisions for ecoboost direct injection and that the entire engine was developed to be able to accommodate future forced induction projects with minimal changes. We are just on the cusp of this new engines potential, and there is a lot left to be extracted from it in future years. |
BMW did this years ago with the M5, bit strange that it's taken so long to catch up

The new '11 5.0 GT can already match the performance of the M3. It even betters it in braking...all for $25k+ less. The new 2012 Boss 302 outlaps the M3 on Laguna Seca still for much less. The SRT can't even hang with a GT anymore, and it's now outperforming the Camaro SS. I think the Mustang as a whole is a well balanced machine once again proving Ford knows how to build a pony car that is the best bang for the $$$.

Amen to that John. They need to focus on the Shelby more now. yeah, the all aluminum engine helps take some weight out, but the boss 302 will spank it on a track. The z06 eats the shelby. They need to take even more weight out, lower the center of gravity and a much better wheel/tire package. It can't get the power to the ground! Basically take the the boss 302 thinking and apply it to the gt500!

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what the approx. 1" diameter tube (the larger one) attached to the intake just upstream of the TB is for? I had a hard time believing it myself when I heard that it was for......

There's some material in there to filter it a bit,I've heard of guys taking them apart and making them louder, lol.:unibrow: Laguna Seca edition rollout @ the racetrack: http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC01468.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC01469.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC01470.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC01472.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC01473.jpg |
Yeah, a noise tube. Who'd of thunk it? NVH at such an all time low that now sound needs to be pumped into the cabin.

talking with my friend the other day he said the key to the new 5.0L is that Ford actually pulled their head from their rear and made a head that actually flows air, and a ton of it at that, well over 300cfm. That would be a first for Ford other than the 351C 4V stuff, and then the volume was too big and made other issues. Nonetheless, the new found power is certainly in the heads.
GM has time and time again made better power with stock heads. The advent of the cheap alum aftermarket heads of the 90s opened up the door for making real power out of SBFs. The 90deg Ford has always been the better design from the deck down, and it is evident when you look at the LS Chevies now... they are essentially 90 deg Fords with Mod Motor cross bolted mains, BUT the heads flow really well bone stock. That is why this tried and true Ford guy gave up with the mod motor stuff and just bought a 2010 Grand Sport with the LS3. Funny (or sad if you will) part about the LS engines is they copied the Ford design enough to have also copied the poor engine oil drain backs  Mine has a dry sump so at least I have enough oil in the sump to keep pressure while filling the valve covers up on the road course, but guys have blown the base model LS2s and LS3s without an accusump or dry sump ;) |
