That's a pretty cool car. Looks like it was taken care of.

Thanks guys - it was pretty well taken care of. A few issues developed by the time I got home - fuel sender leaking at the gas tank, carb gaskets leaking, steering box worn out - but overall it's in very good shape especially for such an old car.

I have never seen one with the vinyl roof before. Are you going to keep it looking like it does now or ??

I want to swap out the wheels for something bigger and somewhat updated. The roof is a designed by John Fitch, who did modifications for the Corvairs back in the 60's (like Yenko did for the Camaros - and the Corvairs too actually). That roof was one of his modifications, it lays on top of the original roof and extends the roofline out. Sort of resembles the Camaro body line. I don't personally like it as a vinyl roof but I do like it appearance-wise, so I plan to strip it and paint it body color so it blends into the car. For now I'm sticking with the current paint scheme.

I didn't even notice the extended body line with the roof. At first look I thought it was just a standard vinyl top. Painted to match the body color will look great. Nice car.

I don't have any really good pics of it, but here's a couple that show how it comes off the back. Looks out of place in black but really looks nice when it's blended into the body. I personally always thought that corvairs looked funky out back because of the stretched trunk, this helps to add visual weight to that area and makes it much smoother (IMO, anyway).
