:wow: They better not!

Yep, this show will suck. For the UK version, the hosts truly do make that show what it is, and there is no good US substitute for their wit and criticism.

Like I said before, Adam Carolla was at the top of the list for this show. He is a car guy and he's funny too.

Thinking about all the people they could have had to give this show a snowball's chance...Tommy Kendall did a pretty decent job as a TV host with that Test Drive show on Speed. The show was heavily scripted and influenced by the auto mfgr's, but he had better TV presence than Foust.

Who's "they?" It'll be on two different networks.

From the article:
The first series of ten episodes will air on History next fall (an American-only season not dissimilar to ‘autumn’, we believe), though exact dates are yet to be finalised.

I'm willing to bet that America will get the UK version on BBC America. Even if the BBC decides to stop airing the UK version on BBC America, ,I have a link to ALL the episodes of the UK version. I would be more than happy to hook you up with the trusted link.

That would be the production company, BBC Worldwide.

Highly doubtful that they would allow both shows to run in the same market, but, we can hope.

I'm amazed at how many people are passionately disapproving of the idea of this show. My only complaint is that finding hosts could've been approached from a different angle. It seems like they always try to find someone that has a racing or technical pedigree above a personality. There are so many high profile celebrities that are personalities for a living and car guys in thier private lives. Jay Leno, David Spade, Adam Carolla, Tim Allen, Chris Titus... the list goes on. To have the spirit of Top Gear you need a comedian. There are also some magazine guys like Frieberger that could add some spark. Just my 2 cents.

Not necessarily for Top Gear - but I like Tanner Foust because he seems legit and doesn't unnecessarily yuck it up constantly. My .02.

GregWeld 04-24-2010 02:37 PM

Tanner might be a nice guy -- but the "show" as we know it and all like -- it's as much about the hosts as it is the cars...

I for one - would NOT tune into the show with different hosts - it would be like many other things - I would always be comparing it to the REAL show...

ccracin 04-24-2010 03:14 PM

If Adam Corolla is the host I will absolutely NOT watch it. He is a tool and should not be considered a car guy. Sorry that guy makes me twitch!
