I am the one in the 150 class that wrecked. The nav[steve] and myself[stan]are getting ready to go get the car or I should say what is left of it.We were told by the EMTs that who ever built the cage knew what they were doing because the design and how it was mounted saved both of our lives. They said an aftermarket built on cage would of failed.Stan
I will go into more detail later on what happend. |
Stan - It was great to hear that you both were able to walk away from the accident, I caught only a fleeting glimpse of the the Mustang as we passed. I know that you have always been a stickler for safety when you run and this shows just how important that it is even in the "lower" speed classes where you don't expect incidents to happen. One the two of you are up for it I'm sure that we all could use a refresher in safety. If there is anything that I can help you with please PM me.

I'll post more on Mary and I's adventures soon but Stan's incident really brings to light how we sometimes take our safety for granted. There were two Mustangs involved in very scary accidents over the weekend (neither had anything to do with being Mustangs, just coincidence). I don't want to get in to detail about the circumstances behind either one because my information is second hand but both accidents should remind us that stuff can happen in a heartbeat at any time. Stan's accident occurred on Highway 318 during the race and my understanding is that Stan was the victim of a high speed tire failure - something that could happen to anyone. The other accident occurred on Saturday during the mile shootout when a stockish GT500 Mustang ran off course well after the finish line and rolled. In many ways this incident was far scarier than Stan's because the car was not equipped with a cage nor was it any faster than most of our cars would be in similar circumstances.
Both incidents serve as reminders that we should always consider safety - the mechanical condition of our cars and the safety equipment that we employ - before we head out on track. |

James sorry about the DQ, seems like alot of work for that to happen.
And Stan, very glad to hear you guys are ok. Cobra R is a pretty rare mustang. Glad the cage saved you guys. Scary but good news  |
stan is big on saftey , his cage in that cobraR is wicked and did its job . i just talked to him a few minutes ago , he was released from the hospital with a concusion and another friend flew out to drive the truck and trailer home with him because he cant fly because of the head trauma .
stans tire failure was odd , there must have been something in the road to cut the tire . he will not even trailer the car with the tires he is going to use at the event . |
I googled for wrecked Cobra at Siver State and found this thread. Glad to hear you guy's made it out safely

There is no real perspective in those pictures but the car came to rest about 100 yards off the highway. Definately a testiment to good roll bar construction and safety equipment.
