Here's a phone pic of my lowers going in. I did weigh them. They are 3lbs a side heavier than the stock ones. Small price to pay for solid parts that improve the handling. |
There is a safety issue with reusing the stock arms...after 40 years on the car,who knows the stresses they have endured. On the CPP tech site, they were just going to re-bush the arms on the PHR Chevelle, but noticed small cracks in them. Most people probably wouldn't clean the arms well enough to inspect for that.
I am lucky I have the paperwork from my GTO since it was delivered...it was involved in something that made them replace one upper control arm,and dented the oil pan pretty good. That's why I started looking at upgrading the suspension...That,and it floats like an old Caddy on the Interstate! |
I want some...

I got mine back from the alignment shop. I had them do +5 caster, -1 camber and 1/16 total toe in. Drove it a bit but not a long trip yet. Seems pretty good. In a turn the outside tire lays in at the top and the inside tire lays in at the bottom, just the way I like it.

Like a lot of guys on here,I have a small budget for toys...$1,500 for control arms is completely out of the question.I simply look at performance gain for the $$.I would like to see a blind test of these vs. ones 5x the price, and see the results on the Auto-X.
I was skeptical about the build quality of the arms until I held them in my hands.Welds were nice,powder-coat nice,H/D hardware, etc. The frame will fail long before these give up.Fine for my street car that might run a local Auto-X a couple times,if at all. If you are a Pro-Autocrosser,where sponsors pay winners for product use,it may be worth using the expensive ones. Most guys are not in that category. Just like a house addition,I look at what the part will do to the resale price. Will $1,500 arms that no one sees add $1,500 to the value of the car?If they do,you are luckier than most sellers...I know...you are gonna keep the car forever...I thought so til Life happened.:D |
