Cool project, love the bug. You can't go wrong with a 1st gen :thumbsup: Sorry to here you had bad time with the shops you have used in the past. The one thing I can say to that is look for a shop that all the do is these kinds of cars, not a collision shop that uses your car for filler, one they will never finish it unless they have a guy that all he does is work on the projects, and two they will most times quote you a price that is a very good deal for you but as they get going they find out that at the rate they charged they are not going to make any money and more than likely lose money. So now you lose on quality and compltion date and most times get charged more money. No offence to any collision shops tht also do this type of work I know there are alot that do great work. I understand what your saying. But all shops were either suspension, metal fab and classic autobody shops. It basically came down to people promising one thing & delivered another (ie 1st shop replacing the rockers and not test fitting the doors, using 1/4" of bondo on a smoothed firewall and "paint prison" for 1 1/2 year when I was quoted 4 months).

I was trying to build a SEMA quality truck & the final product fell a little short. As they say "it's all in the details". I think my biggest mistake was to find a local shop that did "good work", show them pics of what I wanted and have them tell me no problem. I should have put the truck on a trailer and actually taken it to the shop that originally built the car I saw in the magazine. I probably would have spent the same amount of money in the long run & had a better out come.

But I still love driving these "old" cars and I'm looking forward to hitting some car shows and maybe even see if I can drive this thing at the track (I live 20min from the Fontana Speedway, 10min from Adams track were Rob from No Limit goes).

WOW talk about over promising and under delivering WOW is all I can say. I know things change as a project moves forward but it was just body and paint and it took 1 1/2 years, first time it was not worked on ok, second time I come back with my trailer and we go home together. Lucky for me I do not have that problem, but of corues I do not have much time to work on my own anyway so it does get stuck in paint jail :lol: just can't yell at myself, if I do I just quit on myself.:thumbsup:

For anyone wondering what the "other" project was some pics!

It's been awhile since my last post & I've made some changes & had some setbacks. I changed my wheels to the NewGen Lites 19" all the way around (19x11 rear & 19x8.5 front). I also changed the tires to Bridgeston RE-11's (305's & 255's). Well, I had the clutch replaced after I got the car back from Driverz inc. and on the way home the pass. side wheel bearing grenaded on me.

So now I'm having Diff Works in Corona go through the rear end (new big Ford ends, new posi unit & Wilwood brakes installed). As soon as I get it back I should be on the road!

Next year I plan on upgrading the front brakes to the 14" Wilwood setup w/ATS spindles and change a few things under the hood.

Killer choice on the wheels! Perfect on that car.

What do they say "one step forward, two steps back". My rear suspension was installed 1" off center and my rear wheels were built wrong and don't fit:drama: (see suspension forum).

Looks really good. Like 70rs said... Wheels are perfect. Bummer about the "booboo".
