Sorry it didn't work out, but I appreciate the feedback. Once you get the right tires/wheels on the car it will be all worth it.

Okay, now what size tire should I go with on a 17x8 rim with 4.5" BS? I lwould like to put 245/4517's on all 4 corners and lower the car, but it looks like some people are having rubbing issues on the front fenders with that backspacing. I realize I may have to go to a 235/45 in front, but they may look small on the rear and if I stagger the rear to say a 255/40, it may look weird with the same size rim face. Any opinions or pictures?

Maybe choose a wheel that offers the right offset to get what you really want? I know you like those wheels, but it seems like you're going to end up with a combo that you won't be happy with, because those wheels do not have the ideal offsets to get the larger tires you want. The 275/40 and 245/45 front tire combo has been used on many of these cars, and really fills up the fenderwells and looks great on a lowered car. It just requires a 17X9.5 with 5.5" bs and a 17X8 up front with 4.75-5" bs.

I usually change the wheels on my car every few years because I get bored with the look, but I always keep going back to my SS396 wheels. I have been waiting for years for someone to make a copy in a larger size that is close to the original in looks. I trying to achieve this look.

17x8" 4.5 BS with a 245-45-17 rubbed a bit (outer lip) on my lowered '69. Not bad, but it did rub. And that was with very aggressive camber settings to get the tire away from the fender.

Thanks for the info. I made a template of a wheel and backspacing and think I will go with a 235/45 all around or maybe a 225/45 on the front (I may lower it 3" with this tire) and a 255/40 on the rear. The only problem is that the 255/40 is not recommended by the manufactures for a 8" wide wheel, but it looks like people run them without a problem.

the budnik muroc III wheel would look very similar if painted between the spokes and would open up a whole new world of size and fitment options. sure, it's more money. but doing it right the first time saves money in the long run.

I ordered the 17X8 YO Magnums and they should arrive in mid October. The Budnik Muroc III's have a similar look, but not close enough to the original for my preference. My original goal was to put 235/45 tires or 245/45 on all four corners. After using some templates that I made, It appears 225/45 with 3" drop will work or 235/45 with 2" drop. I will wait for the wheels to arrive and tires mounted before I do the drop.

Talked to Yearone today asking when I can expect to receive my 17x8 wheels. They told me they got them in, but the backspacing was not what they specified. So, they may have to have the manufacturer retool and could be be in spring. Look like I may be going with a different choice.

Did you have any luck getting these wheels?
