I don't even know if my car makes road noise. Can't hear anything over the engine, exhaust and radio.

Second Skin Audio's products worked well on the heat and noise through the firewall on my car. They make a quality product.

I just watched a show on the building of Rolls Royce vehicles..seems that they use about 1 inch think high density foam along with foil backed dynamat type stuff to lay down.
On my personal car, I've only tried dynamat and it works pretty well.

The high density foam seems to be the key to REALLY quieting all the different frequencies down.

It's not so much the foam as it is the fact that the foam gets the sound barrier away from the source which is the sheet metal in this case. If you were to put mass loaded vinyl on top of the dynamat or even bare metal, it wouldn't do much.

Here's where I bought all my stuff for my Sierra and learned about the different types of products. The biggest thing for me was the education behind the materials. I hate marketing people as they are only con artists trying to get you to buy a product. I want know how. You'll get that on this website.

I did like he suggests and went with 1lb/ft^2 mass loaded vinyl through the doors on my truck. It's an extended cab. I didn't put any MLV under the carpet or behind the rear seat initially. I didn't want to spend all that money at once since I just wanted to get it a little quieter without going overboard. The results were great! I've since added 0.75 lb/ft^2 MLV to the rear wall. I believe this helped even more. I went with the lighter stuff because I got it shipped in from HomeDepot for a good price and because I'm cheap and willing to accept lower quality for less cost. All in all, I'm really happy and Don's website taught me a lot.

All these sound deadners mentioned will help tremendously. Something to keep in mind a wider tire with the aggressive tread pattern will also be noisy no matter what. I took the Pilot Sports off the back of my car and installed a set of Hoosier drag radials with 2 grooves. The first thing I noticed was how much quieter the car is.

I have a ton of sound deadener, in my car.

Where I get noise, being an older car, is;

#1 Wind Noise. The old windows do not seal air tight, and there is a ton of tubulent air around the vent windows, roof drip rail, chrome trim and mirrors.

#2 Engine and header noise. More solid motor mounts and headers contribute to some noise, and exhaust. I wrapped the mufflers and primary exhaust pipes with header wrap (that worked)

#3 Suspension noise, rod ends, firmer rubber bushings contributes to more direct transfer of road noise.

Only the wind noise really bothers me. Even if you have the windows down a crack at freeway speeds, you cannot even talk to your passenger. Radio = forget it. I have a/c bu my wife insists on having a window down, usually (I don't bother arguing ;) )

Id be willing to bet a lot of the noise is your tires. What condition are they in? Can you describe the noise?

I believe your bet is good. The tires are probably fairly old they were on the car when I bought it. They are 195/50/15 T/A's with good tread life but show signs of age like cracks.

As far as the 2 products I used, I am happy with what I hear. I do notice a huge difference on exhaust noise. The exhaust ends before the rear end so that made a big difference. I've only done the back half of the car so far but can see change in cabin noise. I think its money well spent if your not worried about weight.
