So its not an exact replica. As soon as there is a difference then the other person can claim the design as there own.

LOL, I believe this is the same reasoning that Vanilla Ice used to "justify" ripping off the Queen/Bowie song. That is bad form to take your unique idea (and the execution of your idea) and apply it to a car that is going to be available to the public. I do like the spoiler on the Motion car though.

Personally I see plagiarism as the purest form of flattery. Was I aggravated when I saw the gas cap idea, I stole with permission from Steve O, on the Motion Super car? Yeah! Did I enjoy the fact it looked stuck on their car like a after thought, and is nicely frenched on our car, Also Yeah! In fact, after I looked at it, i was glad they did it. If someone else uses my ideas, If I think there is even a chance they may have took the idea from me and it is not just coincidence, I see it as flattery. Most times they don't get it right anyway. If no one is coping you, or if your not making someone, somewhere, jealous, your just not doing something right!

It's a bit disappointing to me that Jim was never contacted before this rendering was done. There's no doubt that it was his idea, he's got drawings and sketches he's sent me for two years. It is a very cool idea, I can understand why it is so appealing.

This isn't directed at anyone in this thread. The players involved know what this is all about...

When I got the B-M press release, I knew right away where the inspiration for the Speedster came from. Jim has been honing and polishing his vision of the Speedster for a good year and we all know the troubles he had getting the tight mandrel bends and getting the sheetmetal work finished.

Now here I am, in the middle of all this and it's not by choice and not by my own doing, but I'm forced to stand up and clear the air. I'm not happy and I'll tell you why. I don't like being the person to take the blame when others can't come forward and shoulder the load. When I hear that I somehow I was the person that gave the OK to use Jim's ideas on someone else's project, it pisses me off. The FIRST time I ever saw the B-M Speedster renderings was when I got the B-M Press Release e-mail. Now how is it that I'm somehow the person who said it would be OK with Jim to use his ideas if the first time I ever knew about it was when I got the Press Release with the finished renderings?

This website was founded on the friendships that I've built over the years. I pride myself on the fact that what you see of me on this site is exactly how I am in person - honest, genuine and level headed... so it pisses me off that someone would pass the blame on to me and make me look like the bad guy when that couldn't be further from the truth.

I tried to choose my words carefully tonight, it's too bad that others didn't do the same.

Scott
