That first draft looks good.

Saw a similar scheme at a show last fall and they used a white pearl with a satin clear and it was killer. Wish I could find the pic.

I vote for a flat smokey graphite similar to Rushforth's Smoked Titanium or Gunmetal. It would go perfect with that blue (a nice choice itself) IMHO.

I have been agonizing over stripe colors for over a month now so I feel your pain. For what it's worth I really like the black with the little gold one in your drawing. Like it enough to post rather than just troll!

BOOM! There's your answer. Keep to the true classic's of the car, with a slight difference. If you get to radical, the car will look dated before to long. Just think of all those radical 70's paint jobs that everyone laughs at and says WTF?

I like the more subtle look. I saw a wrx rally blue with Nissan Silverstone stripes that was awesome. As others have said silvers or grays compliment those types of blues very well without slapping you in the face. (Like my white on lmb, lol)

I agree.. using vinyl to play with different color is not a bad idea. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with the color scheme!

I've had guys tell me to avoid trends too so the car won't become dated but I'm not too sure what that means. Most builds like this are continue to evolve and it is likely something about the appearance will change down the road no matter what happens now.

The basic problem with this is it's art and everyone loves something different. What is too radical to one is boring to another. The more I thought about mine the more I realized yes my color choice is very trendy but painting over stripes in a few years is not a big deal. So IMO if you like the black and gold now follow your gut and if you want something different as your tastes change in the future when then change it.
