Anywhere, anytime, any distance, any weather...like a really fast rental. If you can't, you're not doing it right.

I drove my now sold '68 Camaro up to Seattle and back to SoCal staying (not entirely successfully) ahead of a couple of winter storms. I had all weather Michelins on it, but it gets exciting when you're wondering if you'll get through the mountain passes in northern California and southern Oregon on the I5 before they require chains.

Now that mine has reached a reliable driver and racer, this is my next step. In fact I was going to drive it 3 hours to Lincoln NE to race it this Sunday as a first test, but severe weather in that area spooked me out of it.

I raced it in the rain last weekend so that isn't a huge issue, I'm just not that excited about driving 3 hours one way to race in the rain.

I can't think of a reason mechanically to not drive it a long distance to an event, but will probably trailer it to St Louis for USCA because of the family, dogs etc that will be going with. If it was just me, I'd take the car alone.

Next weekend Tom and I will be driving to Fontana for Speed Ventures at Auto Club.

I will be bringing a trailer. The car we are tracking will be pulling the 4x6 trailer. The trailer will have fuel, Extra tires, easyup, and our clothes.

So, basically if I have the time and the trip is interesting enough. I have no issues driving either my 68 or 71 anywhere.

I drove mine to 25+ autocrosses, one road race, and the Optima Challenge. Plenty of desert hail Mary's and 7500 street miles. Car failed me once when I sheared a distributor gear cruising. With a big block chevy by the way.

With that being said, I'd trailer for road racing by choice. I just don't enjoy problems that can be avoided.

I stayed overnight in Dunsmir, CA coming back from Sears Point in '94 driving my '94 1LE Camaro......woke up to 6" of snow on the ground - Goodyear Eagle's aren't the best snow tire.

Winner.

But...there's two questions here I think. 200 miles on the street? Sure if that's your plan.

To the track? Bring a trailer.

I just had to say it before I buy a trailer sometime and end up like Todd, or Ron (hopefully sometime soon). It's nice to be able to drive to an event and back without a trailer, but the reality is, we're beating on some of these cars so hard that parts are going to fail eventually, and not all of those parts failures can be avoided with preventative maintenance. I've broken stuff at the track 150 miles from home that couldn't be fixed with the tools in my trunk. It wasn't fun.
