Yes, most of us do. Very few fiberglass or above ground pools around here.
Mines a foot thick of gunite, iirc, the rebar is 12" on cl and 3/8 rebar i think. Almost no pools were damaged in Loma Preita 25 years ago. Our water in the soil will push em up and crack them if emptied at the wrong time of year, i've seen that happen quite a bit.
In an earthquake the whole earth moves, so the energy is dispersed and not so isolated at the pools. But if we get one big enough, and were waaaay overdue, there will definately be some broken gunite....pretty fascinating though.

I didn't feel it but all the lunch boxes in my shop had moved on their shelves... :headscratch:

Just watched the morning news, I hope eveybody is OK.

I woke up and it seemed like several seconds.... cat sleeps at the foot of our bed and I thought he was getting ready to launch a hairball so I pushed him off the bed. My bad. :lol:

I've been on the lookout for a generator for awhile (family likes to hit local flea markets) and today the stars aligned. Found a good one for a great price.

Never know when the next big one will hit.

Glad to hear everyone made out OK. That was the first thing I thought of (if all our member were Ok )when I heard about the quake.

I'd like to hear from Jeff R (Richio1) -- as he lives right there.... Hope he and his family and business etc are okay.

I used to leave the shop with stuff hanging up in the air -- Then I realized the risks in doing that - even if the lift was down on the locks.... I finally started to lower them and set 'em on jack stands even though the lift was still "under" them. Figured even without tires on - they didn't have far to fall that way. Seattle was known for quakes. It's just the little things we don't think much about.

Well it's been an eventful day to say the least. I was down in Pleasanton at the GG WCN show with my car. The quake hit and woke me up with the hotel swaying back and forth. I thought, holy sh*t if I felt it that much in Pleasanton and that quake was in SF, its the big on and there will be major damage. A minute later my wife calls. The kids are crying and the dogs are barking. She was really shaken too. She said everything has crashed off the walls, out of the cabinets, the dresser has fallen on my son and so one. I packed up and headed home to help with the clean up.

As we all found out, the quake was centered here. My family and I got off lucky compared to many. Lots of broken items inside and outside. We lost 3.5 ft of water out,of our pool. That would have been crazy to see. Much of it flooded into the neighbors yard and washed all his bark into his pool. (Sorry)

Luckily I had the Camaro at the show and not in the garage as cabinets emptied out and one fell over. I was also lucky that my wine fridge didn't fall over. It just moved a foot to the west. Some friend lost thousands of dollars in wine.

The energy of the quake was an east to west slip. Anything on our east walls fell and the furniture tipped over. All our flat panels are on north walls and none moved or fell luckily. Oddly, items on the west walls were fine too.

My dad who lives in town has his 30 Pheaton roll off his lift. Fortunately it was on the ground and wasn't up in the air. His shops are a mess though. It's sure sucks having to clean every room in your house.

I really feel for the wineries. I am seeing some horrible pictures and videos on Facebook. Big losses. Racks of full barrels stacked to the warehouse ceilings toppled over. Silver Oak got hit hard too. Here is a pic from a small producer here.

All in all the broken things are just things and things can be replaced. Most everyone is safe and that is the most important thing.

I am sure there will be much more to come over the next few days.

Wow Jeff. Glad your family is ok first and foremost. Great pics (in the wow/thats aweful sense). The news hasn't shown any of those yet. The pic of that old barn is amazing, so sad. And yes the facebook link did work.

Hope the aftershocks are nothing. Here in the East bay, we're waiting for this to happen to the Hayward fault, been around 150 years since its last "moderate" slip. I"m about 20 miles due east of it, surrounded by the Alamo fault and Altamont fault (the two faults that surround the tri-valley which is Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore)

And since we're on the "winery"topic. Livermore, although "wine" country is beautiful and a wonderful place to live, it any anything compared to Napa. Napa will always be one of my favorite places on the planet (wine aside, its just a beautiful beautiful valley).
