yes ,but if your supposed to pull them both out why not yank em both at the same time.

because all I read was "So how would you guys pull a Pontiac motor out of a 78 trans am ?"

Ok, if it was me, I'd put the car up on the rack, dump the exhaust, remove the drive shaft and pull the trans. Then pull the engine out the top. Its cat skinning and every job is different. If I was doing the subframe or it its a painted car where the hood has to be removed I would have dumped it as an assembly like Greg said.

You can pull the engine and trans as an assembly but by the time you wipe up all the trans fluid that dumped out of the tail shaft I'd be done with the whole job and half way home.

Scary to think you're just getting started with the shop and a 60k build....He's already scratched it and played it off like it's no big deal? Now you guys are disputing hours over a motor/tranny pull out?

One of you guys need to run away, just not sure who:bang:

If it was me, I wouldn't want someone telling me how to do my job. Whatever I pulled off the motor would go right back on once it was sitting on the floor and I wouldn't have left the zip tie in the motor.

Good luck.

thanks guys,,,yea I figured about 6 hours too,,,and as far as the zip tie removal I guess I just was pissed that he didnt cover the holes cause thats exactly what I would do too,,but after I had the intake, valley pan,oil pan off,,I was like screw it Im gonna go through it..And yes Im in the process of taking the car out of the shop,,but Im going to run into some problems because he also cut out my 8 point cage ( without talking to me ) and put in a full nascar type cage,,and im sure hes going to want a pretty penny for that.:bang:

I have a hard time believing that. I can't imagine any shop doing that much work without it being agreed to first.

Ok,,, Well Then Would You Believe That I Paid Him For An Art Morrison Tringulated 4-link Kit $4200 bucks,,,and On His Last Invoice To Me He Charged Me For The Lower Housing Mount, and The Lower Coilover Housing Mount,And he is building a rear end for the car when the 4-link kit comes with a rear end..I am sure he is racking up the hours on something that he shouldnt even be doing. Can you say SCAMMER.

Years ago when I went through my apprenticeship, I had to take classes for communication and public speaking. I suggest you check with the local junior college or votech and do the same....It's clear you and the shop are not on the same page with what needs to be done. This all could have been avoided with better communication.

Again, :bang:

Yea I understand why people would have some disbelief with this and trust me I have tried to deal with this guy and I am amazed that someone could so blatently try to extort Cash out of someone, but me and my lawyer have ( 0 ) doubt he is up to no good and trying to take me for all the cash he can ,,,its sad but true,,we are currently just trying to get my car out of his shop,,and transport the car to a more reputable shop. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN:bang:

That would be my suggestion -- chalk it up to picking a bum shop.... get the car and get the heck out of there. You may be in for a protracted fight. You're probably not the first guy he's had a run in with.
