I need to urn the rotors on mine, but the pads are still over half. I guess with the compression braking these trucks have, it just doesn't take as much.

I have noticed that since installing EFI Live, some of the compression braking is gone. I can live with that due to the alternative of the truck just running better.

My brother has an 04 burb, with like 215k on it now. 2nd engine, 3rd transmission, 2nd rear end assembly, and original pads front and rear.

I've ordered tires from summit, had them shipped to my house, took them and had them mounted and balanced, off the truck of course, for less coin than local tire shops want around here. It seems to me as though every tire store owner that I know is trying to put themselves out of business...

That's why I have been shopping at Sam's for my tires. The local shops are just too high when you price them out. The offerings there just work out price wise.
I know I can go anywhere for tires, it's just that the using my money wisely takes me there.
I have another avenue of course, just the ability drop it off and get a rotate and balance while I shop, makes it just easy.

I have bought my last couple of sets of tires on EBay. Discount Tire Direct sells them on there with free shipping and no sales tax. I take them to the local discount tire shop and have them installed. You can purchase the tire certificates after the purchase by calling their 1 800 number.

How much money are you guys saving buying and installing not at the same location. Just curious

Also how does rotations, flat repairs, mileage warranties play into this equation?

Stuart, I've saved $150.00 on a set of 35"s before, but it's always an easy 100 dollar bill by shopping around.
I rotate my own tires. I've never had a flat that was covered by warranty, and the bogus mileage warranties that are offered are complete jokes. Nobody can drive their car "perfect" enough, for the tire manufacturer to step up and write a check. Those worked years ago, but for me, the warranty is a gimmick. I don't even ask about the warranty any more. I bought tires from a shop for YEARS and had a great relationship with the owners. We raced cars together, and were great friends, until the tire manufactures started looking for ways to choke the refunds down. It got to where the shop owner wouldn't return my calls because of their embarrassment on a "warranty" that wasn't.
Nowadays I shop around, save money, and I have another guy that mounts them for me locally. I live very remotely, and I put a LOT of miles on my stuff, so my tires don't last long enough to bother anyway.
For what it's worth, Discount Tire offers free rotations for ANYBODY.

I have a local tire store that charges $10 per to mount tires and I use Dyna Beads for balancing. I can install the beads thorough the valve stem once the core is removed so no need to pay for balancing. I have encountered places that won't install oversized tires and I suspect these places have enough business with the vast number of non-car people that they don't feel it necessary to deal with big wheels and tires.
