Bmw

My neighbor has driven that BMW at various races during the season. He was supposed to co-drive in that race but lost his seat due to politics / money. He said the driver sustained a black eye and a few bruises - Safety First!

I really don't mean to be dramatic, but there is little reason why this couldn't/wouldn't happen on a typical open track day to a car with FAR less crash protection. Granted, these cars in general are faster, and open track events are "non-contact" by nature, but with the HP some of the folks are putting in their PT cars these days and the relative lack of driving experience (and I place myself in these categories too), bad poop can happen really, really fast. Without a contemporary cage, more than likely a good fire system though I haven't seen the whole thing, HANS, and one HECK of a lot of luck, this dude would be six feet under. One very scary crash.

The only one I saw that was as bad was the one at the Rolex event at Long Beach this year, Daytona Prototypes. One of the Friselle cars broke and was limping down the front straight (which is actually very fast, curved, and very blind). He tried to cut inside to an escape route, and Eddie Cheever nailed him on the right rear (going at least 150), shot him left where another car jnailed him on the left rear. I thought for certain all three guys were dead, all three cars were for certain.

Performance is fun, but it is dangerous and impossible to control under all circumstances.

Crazy video,
Mark
