30-50K permit fees:hairpullout: Wow, that's a lot. I think the permit fee here to build my house was less than $500.

wtf!? That's crazy man. So far, my permit has been about $1500 all in. What was interesting though is that the county scans the address for any additional potential permits. In my case they found that my hot water heater operating permit was out of date. Got that fixed- $1000 later. Cool lol

Grading is done. Time for a wall and some footing forms.

Thanks Joe on both notes. We're super excited. Forms for the footings went in yesterday and the electrician came out to survey the panel to ensure it'll support the shop's requirements. Footings are ridiculously massive, but that's what the plans call for. These "kits" (if you can call it that) are sold all over the U.S. where different states have seismic requirements or flooding issues, so they make them extremely robust.

That fee is rediculous, do they make you pay another fee when the leafs fall off in the fall because that's your fault too? lol

How did the kit look when it showed up? I have been looking at these online.

Currently Looking to move to the country, if the house doesn't have a detached garage one is getting put up. Just wanted to know your opinion

no kidding man. God forbid one of her branches falls on a car I built with my post-taxed money. How would the branch feel!? lol

The shop is waiting delivery in Roseville right now. It's not complete yet, waiting on the trusses to show up. I'm trying to hold them off until the 26th. I will post up some pics when it arrives. So far the concrete guy and framer are very impressed with its completeness and the plans.

Nopants,

Just a thought since your early in the build any thoughts on running conduit for things like power or internet out to the shop from the house? Seems from the pictures would be easy to add some conduit for some cat 6 cables at the very least. Even if you wanted to wireless in the shop having some cat 6 out there to the shop and add wifi from the shop would be much better experience. Just a thought.

Love the tree --- it's a hassle but I get it..... In the end - you'll have the tree and a shop!
