I m sorry but drifting to me is hardly a sport. Take a light weight high hp car, and go. All it is, is a controlled burnout. there was a kid in my class at school who thought he was a pro drifter in his P.O.S. nissan 240sx. He never stopped talking about it, my buddy and I as well as or instructors always gave him Sh!t about it. :lol:

Can't they drift around cones and then if you knock them over you lose points or something? Seems like some cones and timing would take the subjectivity out of it. I know nothing about drifting so if they already do this then sorry. :D

I grew up in the country Jim, we called it dirt tracking on the dirt road I lived on. Some of the things we did......reminds me of the ABB song where Gregg sings,"When I think about the old days, Lord it sends chills up and down my spine!" How we lived thru it, I just don't understand. I understand why those "old neighbors" hated me and my brother now.... :yes:

Wouldn't a team of vintage musclecars setup to do this sort of thing really shake up the whole 'Drift' scene? The presence of the new GTO driven by Rhys Millen has been winning...but imagine a '65 GTO or '68 Road Runner clone out there doing the same.

The 'problem' is they really tear these cars up when they hit, and the easily-replaced body panels on the imports make them simple to fix.

Surely, a domestic effort would have to stock replacement 'glass panels or something, and a legit crew to fix them respectably enough to look cool at all times.

I think it'd work if it was done right.

theres already a 69 camaro competing in "formula-d" but i dont think its doing all that well. Ideally those drift cars are supposed to be small and nimble to pull off some of the crazy stuff the really good drift drivers can do.

as far as it not being a sport.... i couldent disagree more. just because they arent going for fastest time specifically doesent mean it doesent require skill. i honestly think that the best drift drivers are some of the best drivers out there, period.

I once saw a competition on TV that had a 70's El Camino competing. I think the dude driving called himself Bubba Drift!

Reminds me of taking my Mom's '77 Granada onto the local outdoor hockey rink ........ Do a few 180's without any damage to the car or boards : now THAT'S a sport ......


I have been drifting for 30 years : up here we call it WINTER ........


I get enough of it for four months a year, I don't need anymore on TV ....
