In Minnesota, you can apply for a special plate that designates you as a repeat DUI driver. I think it costs a good chunk of change, but it will let you get your driving priviledges back sooner.

The plates are usually like WT1234, WX1234, WV1234, etc. Normal Minnesota plates are ABC-123, so the 'whiskey plates' really stand out. By having the whiskey plates, you agree to allow LEO's to pull you over with no probable cause. It is kind of like a scarlet letter.

Don't know if this counts.

I have gotten pulled over by CHP and the local Sheriff a couple of times within the last 4 years for speeding. Yep I was.

I always pull over and wait for them, because I saw them hiding at the last minute. I admit my wrong, and during the pull out your license and reg routine, I wiggle in the fact I work for my local Volunteer Fire Dept., show my ID and badge. Then they just warn me and let me go. That's always nice.

Not long after getting my current ride the local officer pulled me over and ask me not to run from him because he knew he couldn catch me.
Then he looked at me and recognized me and said never mind,
I can just wait for you on the porch neighbor.

Well not quite... Most DUI convictions have a stipulation about receiving those plates, so most of the time you dont apply for it... they just give it to you.

Secondly, They cannot pull you over without cause... that has gone back and forth several times and currently they cannot pull you over without a good reason... but then again, there are TONS of good reasons to pull people over... ex: Not using a turn signal.

Mind you, my wife works in law enforcement and i have lots of cop friends and have the upmost respect for cops...however... sometimes i wonder. ;)

I've been pulled over for the dumbest things... once i got pulled over for 'driving suspiciously'... wtf is that? I was lost in a neighborhood i'd never been to... it was dark... and it was raining. No ticket.

Last BS one happened when i ran a green light... yep, i got pulled over for running a green light. Cop said i ran a red, i had to inform him that one that particular light, there was a green right turn arrow... that WAS F'n LIT UP!!! No ticket. Just some bored cop.

3rd... got pulled over for "speeding"... the hell i was, i knew i was going 45 in a 45, trust me, i looked. The bullship lady cop tried to pull some "well your plates are whiskey plates"... no they arent, i know what they look like, neither me or anyone in my family has ever gotten a DUI. No ticket either, i was told to calm down because i was so pissed she pulled me over for such a dumb reason. HAHA. Jerk.

Start keeping box full of donats with you and you never get a ticket

Got pulled over coming home late with my newly purchased 72 Monte back in college. The local officer claimed that my exhaust was "way too loud" and that I didn't have mufflers. I told him to check for himself that I indeed had them and he screamed at me! I don't know how he could have complained because they were Dynomax turbos and I was idling past him. And since the plastic license plate clips in the front bumper were missing, I had the plate sitting on the dash, tucked into the A pillar. Thank God I had a squeaky clean record, got let off with a stern warning.

Now that I married into a law enforcement family....my troubles are over. One quick call and I'm off the hook!

I got pulled by a bicycle cop for playing my radio too loud! He gave me a ticket for disturbing the peace!

Got a reckless driving ticket for spinning my inside wheel in a gravel parking lot! Tried to fight it, but they stuck it to me.

Got a speeding ticket for passing someone on a two lane road. I wasn't speeding until the cop appeared from around the curve coming at me and I had to get out of the way!

That's right, so all they have to do is make one up. How do you prove they are lying? Couple examples:

I was cruising through Bloomington, MN on my way home late one night in a 35 mph zone. I was approaching a vehicle traveling the same direction only going much slower which I immediately suspected was a police vehicle. I made sure I was going a little under 35 mph. Sure enough, as I passed the car I saw that it was an unmarked squad. I continued on for another mile or so and just before I hit the freeway, the lights go on. The officer asked for my license and insurance and said nothing else. He went back to his car and returned a few minutes later and said "thank you, have a nice night". So I asked him what he stopped me for. He asked me if I knew what the speed limit was. I said yes, 35 mph. He said, well you were going a little faster than that. Ya right.

Another time I was on my way home from work at 2am cruising down the highway in Farmington, MN. I was in my El Camino. I see squads hiding out along that stretch of highway all the time so I never speed and I always pay attention to what I'm doing. Sure enough, I passed one parked in a dark spot on the side of the road. Just as I pass him, the lights go on. This time I got the 50 questions. Where are you coming, from where are you going, have you been drinking...and he told me the reason he pulled me over was because I crossed the white line on the shoulder. There was no WAY he could have seen that even if I did! So I got the verbal driving lesson and a "nice car" comment and sent on my way.

I don't want to sound like I don't appreciate the work police do trying to crack down on drunk driving because I do. But, I don't think it's right for them to make crap up just so they can pull someone over.

KAA: this is right, they do "stretch" the truth some times... i was referring to the specific DUI, whiskey plate law where they could pull you over without cause.

I got pulled over once for doing a wheelie on motorcycle and the tub o' lard cop came waddling over to me screaming, "WHO THE HELL WERE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS??"

At the time i was a smartass and said, "did you like it?" How i walked away without a ticket is beyond me.

I know, I was just using your statement to make my point.

I guess I'll have to try being a "smartass" next time. Every time I've gotten pulled over for speeding or whatever, I was polite and did everything they tell you to do when you're pulled over to make it safe for the officer and let them know you're not a threat. Not one warning, ever.
