I do all my own, including a few for other people.

My dad has managed a body shop for 35 years, so we do all of our own work. I'm not much of a painter (yet), but I can bodywork them out pretty damn straight.

Whoever said it is right about the mess. We do a lot of our work in the same shop and some days after a long night of sanding it looks like it snowed inside our garage!

I do my own as well, have done a couple for others too. I prefer working with suspension and metal but I cant afford to pay someone else to do paint/body so I do it myself.

I have a hard time letting someone else work on my daily-drivers, much less my toys. I do everything myself except building engine, trans, and rear axle.

I have always done all of my own.

I am not fast though, I probably could never earn a living at it...

Thanks for all the replies. That is what I figured. I have a buddy who is looking to start a business on the side and wondered if most of the guys on here do their own work. The Barrett auction this Jan has kind of scared him from starting it. I personally thought that there were several cars that were bought for alot less money than people probably had spent restoring them.

If he opens a shop, does good work and meets his scheduling commitments to his customers, he should do very well. There are so many shops that CAN do awesome work, but just can't ever seem to get anything done on a reasonable schedule.

I WISH I could do my own work.
I may take some classes at MTI and get myself on the right track.
With all this passion for these cars that I have, you would think I was working on them all the time. Hopefully someday!!

I've done all my own work in the past, but with the chevelle, I'm doing all the body work, priming, sanding, priming, blocking down to 320 and then were gonna have someone paint it and color sand. it to hard to keep the nibs out of the paint without a booth!

I do 99% of EVERYTHING ELSE on the car...Can figure out most everything...

But boywork?...If it was just a "lot of hard work and labor", then I'd have no problem taking a stab at learning how to make stuff flat and beautiful...BUT IT AINT!!!...It's this evil black art that only people with "talent" can do...Too much to learn, too messy, and too expensive to buy equip for...(I kid)...

As much as I hate it, I will either still be pimping my primered 2 door wagon around, or I'll buck up and most likely double my money into a car by getting it done by a pro...And then bitch up a storm that his idea of perfect laser straight panels doesn't seem to match my version of the same...
