I deal with this kind of thing with my car all the time. If I had a dollar for every time someone sees my car and whispers to a friend "its not an SS, there's no console", I would be rich. My car is a true SS (X-55 code), but did not come with a console or tach.

In any case, if that cross ram set up is original, that alone would brink up to 20K on E-Bay.

Well hell.. i've never been part of the "chalk" crowd anyways :)

I know every rule back then had exceptions but MOST Z28's in 69 had rear spoilers and I would think that if a car was ordered with a cross ram option that it would have been well loaded out and had a spoiler. If they would have ordered a stipper then I doubt it would of had an RS package.

I'm not saying it is or isnt..just my opinion which is worth somewhere south of .02 on this :)

And yes.. it still amazes me but a numbers matching cross ram intake and matching carbs is worth a very nutty $20k..

Well that is just silly... even I know that an SS does not have to have a center console.. i think it does have to have front disc brakes though.. besides if you car is x55 coded then it is a no brainer :)

Hi Steve- I'm definately not part of the "chalk crowd" either (just look at my cars!) But when there are so many cars out there that are not what they claim to be, you learn to really appreciate references like the CRG....

The car in question of course, if a real Z-28, could not have had A/C. Looks like a pretty nice job was done to add it to this car, tho.

Anyway...many documented examples of "stripper" cars as you say, with few options, were equipped with crossram setups.

Yep, it certainly is amazing, the prices the originals command nowadays.

According to several sources no Z/28s came with the cross-ram from the factory, they were all dealer or customer installed.

Thera are a guy over here that bought a Z/28 a couple of years ago, it had a cross-ram with it (not installed) the seller asked for $500 extra to sell it with the car. The guy buying the Z/28 thought it wasn't necessary and refused. Bummer!!

When he realized his misstake and called the previous owner he had already sold it. As the story goes this intake was sold with the car...

And about '69 Z/28's people say just about anything. The guy I bought mine from claimed that it was a numbersmatching car. Yeah right, with a 396!!

Yes, you are right. The crossram intake was dealer installed. I did see a 69 Z/28 out at Carlisle a few years ago that had the true winters crossram intake, sequential serial number carbs, etc, and had the original intake and carb and receipt for the dealer install.

a/c spoiler

As far as the a/c goes, the ad said it was "added" for your comfort on the way to car shows.

And Steve, the only reason I know about the spoiler is a friend of mine is the original owner of a "stripper" Z28. It had a flat hood and no spoilers. He has added them over the 35 years he's had it, but is considering taking it back to stock during the next restoration.

No prob :)

I know they could be had that way but it is very doubtfull that a car would be a "stripper" (ie. flat hood and no spoiler) AND have the RS package.. it is non-sensical..

More the likely they just painted the stripe "wrong" when restoring the car.

Does adding a factory AC unit to the car hurt it's collectability? I would think it would to the purists that buy these types of cars.

An Z RS could be a "stripper" as well as a non RS, the ZL2 hood was quite rare on Z/28's. they only made a little over 10.000 units and of those all Indy's and COPO's had ZL2 that take away about 4.700 units to be shared on all 69 Camaros. So a Z/28 without the ZL2 hood was more common than one with it. And for those made before 12E it wasn't available.

The first car to get a ZL2 hood was COPO #1

In Jerry MacNeish book "The Definitive 1969 Camaro Z/28-SS396 Fact Book" there is one RS "stripper" on page 5, Jim Brandenburg is the owner.
