I know, but if I had known I was going to tear down the engine I would have done it.

Just like in the build, it's always the little crap that gets you.

Does remind me of a dumb mistake I made years ago, kind of off topic, but I thought it might make you laugh.

Ever shim an oil pump with a welch plug? Know what happens when you do? Oil pressure is fine at idle, but as soon as you give it some gas, the bypass opens, lets the oil in, but it won't bleed out and locks the bypass closed. Did you know you can actually blow an oil filter right off of a 409 with this little trick? :wow: 'Bout peed my pants when it exploded the filter off of it's mount. Took me a few to figure out what I had done wrong!

Shiny Side Up!

A treatment problem with a Comp cam? Look around over at Team Chevelle, doesn't appear to be that uncommon.

Steve, what can I say..

Keep you head up little buck-a-roo? I don't think that would help. That really sucks! Now I am all freaked out about starting mine. Running a comp grind as well.

I will be thinking about you and having a beer...just on the other coast

When things settle down give me a buzz.

I was going to ask if you used a double roller timing chain on your engine. Reason I ask is because some of the sets have oil pump shims with them. Similar to what ProTouring442 had mentioned the driverside shim can be flipped upside down and still bolt on. It will cut off 2/3's of the oil passage to the upper engine. Something to look into if you did have shims. Dont ask how I know. :faint:

wasn't this motor dynoed, why was the low oil pressure not caught then?? would of eliminated all of this and is exactly what dyno testing is for
killer car, killer motor goodluck

Oil pressure was fine on the dyno. It wasn't "endurance tested" for a long period. It was ran in then tested in stock form. Then tested with the heads and the last 10 pulls were made with the new cam.

Also, there's no evidence the low oil pressue is related to the cam issue. I feel the low oil pressue is a problem with the pick-up tube (crack or such). Will know for sure today.

Like I said, just part of the "car building experience".. what can ya do?

well that sucks.. Good luck Steve.
