Glad to hear those big old meats are going to tuck up in those wheel wells nicely. You let me know when you hit the streets of Vegas and I'll gladly let you pick out the hottie of your choice.:D Really looking forward to seeing Emptynest and the Vette.

VERY NICE ENGINE!!!!! |
It seems like your project is going pretty smooth..and quick, which is always nice. Keep the updates coming and those headers are a work of art, awsome!
|
Thanks guys. I haven't updated my build for a while. Frank is hoping to have my car done in early December. I am making sure I have my engine ready to stab so that is all done. Today I spent about an hour on my oil breather system and my starter shield. I decided I didn't want to run valve cover breathers due to the mess that would eventually compromise my headers and so on.
I went ahead and bought some new valve covers with no holes so I could modify them. I am going to run a -12AN breather system with canister. Today I went ahead and found the best place for my breather and cut the hole, filed it smooth, and bolted it on. I was going to reduce it to -10 AN but Frank talked me into 12 so jegs is going to have to exchange a few things. :unibrow: http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0524.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0523.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0522.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/IMG_0519.jpg |
I am running a GM performance parts mini starter. Those killer headers come with a compromise. The header and starter have to go on together. I hope to do it only once so I am taking every step to protect that little sucker. I moved the starter as close to the block as possible and of course the shield hits the block. I ground it down so it does not touch the block. I don't want any noise. I will also run my starter wiring and probably atleast one spark plug wire through the shield for extra protection.

Smoothed firewall and ready for paint fenders
Firewall looks killer. Went over final body and sub mods yesterday. I don't need no stinkin wipers. Should be shiny soon:thumbsup:

Wow that big block is gonna feel right at home under that hood! Those headers look amazing!
|
Will it be home for Christmas?
|
No, it will be black by Christmas but not quite home yet. The situation with Lisa's dad after SEMA through a wrench into things a bit.

Happy new year!
I definitely creamed my pants when I opened up this email! Is there any color that looks better than black? Man it's looking sick. Frank said they plan to color sand it still and then clear coat. This year is getting off on the right foot!!!!:D

Wow! That is going to be sick!
I want to be there when it shows up here in Vegas. |
Looks great! With all the paint being sprayed it's an exciting time for many of us right now!

Happy New Year Todd! She is going to be pretty hot.

man that car is gonna be slick, in reference to you other post, i say red calipers and as big of rotors as you can fit!!! |
AJ I haven't forgotten you buddy. I'll make sure I let you know when she is on the way. I like the red calipers but decided it didn't fit the scheme. It will be 13" front and back with 6 piston/large 4 piston rear. Cross drilled and slotted in black powder coat. Man this thing is going to be a bitch to keep clean.:D

Quick update....front sub is in and all the major body panels are hung. It's been over to the headliner shop and they are putting in my roll bar and seat belt set up. They have already color sanded the paint and waiting for the right conditions to spray on that final coat of black and then clear.:D
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/DSC00661.jpg Right now I am trying to decide exactly how I want my front end painted. (Grill, bumper, healight bezels, spoiler) That RCR camaro threw a wrench in my spokes. Can you have to much black? Naaaaaah |
The engine is pretty much ready to plug and play. Since the last photos I have changed to MSD cut to lenght wires and run them under the headers with boot guards. Changed valve covers and installed a -12 AN fitting for my puke can. Painted the engine mounts. Got in touch with Lokar for the special fitting to work with the Gen VI pan. Put on my oil filter adapter and pipe fitting and AN connections. Cut a coil mount out of billet aluminum. The coil may still end up inside the car. The only thing that may still change is the oil pan to black. At first I really liked the red but now am having second thoughts. It may come off before I drop it in for a paint job. Other than that it's done.

Hey Todd,
Which shop in Vegas are you having your interior done at? I'm no where near that point but I like to have stuff planned ahead of time. Thanks, Mal |
Interior is still up in the air. Considering having the stock door panels professionally redone or just ordering new deluxe stuff. The front seats will definitely be an aftermarket like a corbeau or sparco with the back seat to match. If I find someone that is referrable I'll let you know.

Rendering
I had Ben work me up a rendering before it's time for trim, mirrors, grill, etc. He ended up doing about 6 different renderings for me. Ben is great to work with and I would highly recommend spending the money because it takes alot of the guess work out of it. Frank it's time to talk powder coat:clap:

That is going to be Sweet when finished:hail:
Rendering is just awesome:thumbsup: |
SWEET!!!! it looks soo good!
i guess you decided on the front bumper then... good choice. i dont remember if you mentioned it but what are you running for suspension? that car screams air ride to me. |
I appreciate all the positive comments. I like to think it's got a modern look but not lost all it's nastalgia. Ben recommended some modern mirrors but I want to keep the car muscular. I was really considering a Fuel or Killer Customs look but really wanted to keep the rear bumper chrome and the wheels will pop even more in reality. So I kept the chrome mirror and doorhandles along with the grill trim. The nice thing about it if I change my mind it's all stuff that pops off and can be painted or powdercoated easily. I don't think that is going to be the case.
AJ I am glad you are not writing the checks.:D I am running a g-bar out back and DSE upper and lower control arms with gulstrand mod and 2" lowering springs. The G bar has coil overs so I can dial in the stance and cut the front springs if necessary. One of my favorite parts of the project is my seat belt set up. I wanted to get rid of the stock belts but didn't want to be strapped in the car with racing belts. I am going with a new set of 3 point belts mounted to the roll bar to function like a new factory car. Should have photos soon. |
lol.
i think the car looks PERFECT in the rendering. not to much chrome , not to much black, to me the car is the perfect mix, and i agree with you on the mirrors (are you doing the drivers side also?) the gulstrand mod ... thats where you lower the upper control arm mounting hole right? i wouldnt or could spend the dough on an air ride system just the look of that car with the big rear wheels and tires, i just envisioned it being parked just sitting super low!!! no i like you susupension set-up , very very fuctionaly without all the added costs. |
Yes....DSE has their own gulstrand template that works with their built in caster and camber curve. At this point adding anything to the budget is out. I totaled everything up in a spreadsheet and it's not pretty. :_paranoid But who gives a ****.:D

I opened my inbox and my computer locked up right when I saw that I had paint pics! Took me an hour to get my computer up and running. It was worth the wait:

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...9/DSC_0191.jpg
Made my decision on paint and gauges for my DSE dash this week as well. Gauges are on the way to Frank for a custom touch:D Will be discussing final roll bar, seat belt, and grill finishes tomorrow sometime. |
That looks very nice, what brand and color of black is that? I'm spraying next week with ppg no toner black. I can only hope it turns out as nice as yours did.
