Wow, Neil Lea is my alabama cousin. He is good people. I have a little Ls project in the works and it should be pretty kick ass if I don't run out of money first. Maybe someday you can come to the Hot Rod reunion with us when he runs that dragster of his.

I saw your location the other day and it said Centre Alabama, I wondered if you might know Neil.

Yeah I know that vette is gonna be crazy, and light weight. Lots of carbon fiber, magnesium, chromoly and aluminum. Should be one fast ride ride when he is done. That is why I told him about the magnesium cross ram from Kinsler they are building for me.

So if he is you son, I wonder if I'm your california nephew.......small world. HUH?

give me link to your camaro, i would like to see it,

Mine is home built. I have a good long time friend that owns a machine shop (with dyno) that will be doing my machine work and tunning. And also another good friend of mine that owns a body shop. I did body work for 10 years, and will use his shop for the paint work. Other than that, all the other work will be done in my 30x50' "shed".

All done in the garage except for body prep and paint, and it's in for that right now.

Twin_Turbo 08-19-2007 03:48 AM

I build everything myself, I built almost everything from scratch, even the susp. and steering.

Mine is also homebuilt, the paint was done in 1993 by a former owner and is still in pretty good shape. However the front fenders need to be replaced, all is still original bodymetal but some rust has started to show up in the fenders.

The conversion to ProTouring has been done over the years, work over the winter and drive in the summer. Machinework has been hired but everything else is done by me.

ZZ3ElCamino 09-19-2007 08:39 PM

NOT A TA 09-19-2007 09:50 PM

Do almost everything myself. I built most of my Firebird in this garage rented from a neighbor. Good thing I'm a thin guy! There's not a lot of room in there. Had to get car up against wall to do bodywork on one side then turn car around to do the other side.Ran extension cord from my house for power and long air hose from my basement compressor to the garage. Painted it in the dirt driveway before it was graveled. Probably the only magazine cover car painted outside on dirt in a long long time! Machine work done by shop, exhaust tubing bent by shop. All suspension, bodywork, Paint, windows, engine, interior, elec etc done by me. On my current Malibu project I've done most of the bodywork in the parking lot at work after hours with just hand tools. I need a real shop or less cars to free up garage space to work in !http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...A/MVC-006F.jpg

It is Cortez Silver, in silver paint the lights can give you a lot of cool effects like in that picture. BTW the IKEA in the background is the first one they started with.

Here are some other pictures showing the color of the car better.

my car has been 100% in shop so far. I will be getting help from a local mechanic with the engine and transmission. Interior and paint will also be done at home. Oh, I did have rhino-liner sprayed on the underbody, out of shop.

XcYZ 09-20-2007 07:14 AM

I've done everything to my project in my 2 car garage. I'll leave the paint to the experts at Autokraft, though.

Garage Built

i do all my own work , except paint and body(done it before but need so much room and the mess)I let a shop do that - or a buddy- thats why my car has been at shop for 2 years+ i have self build rear end and eng/trans waiting for him to get it done , after having a shop years ago tell me they would install a 350 in my camaro - and get a 327 that soon started using oil die to 1 bad piston/rings on 1 cylinder among other things they screwed up like putting wrong spark plugs in heads and a few other things I figured I could screw it up just as bad as they did for alot less money ! I am not a good mechanic but im still learning  now if i ever get my car back.....
im pretty tired of reading about everybodys progress on their rides here over the last 2 years and i got NOTHIN , its killen me :(

I know the feeling :( . I started to feel like a benched player on here, invested in the game but not part of it. Starting to get a little "game" time though :D .

Just think, when you get your car back, you have a lot of stuff ready for it  .

kmcanally 09-22-2007 06:16 AM

I did everything that I had the experience and/or tools to do. Basically everything except for the painting, welding and transmission/rear axle rebuilding.

rocketrod 09-22-2007 05:50 PM

I have done and will continue to do everything on my car, except the paint and I did have the floorpans media blasted.

gearheads78 10-02-2007 08:06 PM

I will be building mine on my own. I will farm out the short block and probably let someone that really knows what they are doing shoot the final paint. I will do any fab, metal work, priming, blocking and assembly.

Garage built

Mine is also garage built car. Brian Kellison Painted my car And did an awsome job in his own garage. He helped W/ headliner & interior & glass installation . He also painted Mizfit motorsports camaro for only $6000.00 dollars that just sold on ebay for 185.000.00 . now thats a bargin guys. It might be worth shipping your car to kellisons Kustoms in Lawrence Ks. (785-843-3123 )to make kind or profit.

Perry Mitchell 10-02-2007 08:43 PM

Everything done on the Mitchell Brother's ZR/28 Camaro was done in either my garage or my brother, Alan's, garage with the exception of the custom interior and the chrome plating.

Those cinder blocks make great jack stands:rofl: (I'm guilty of cinder blocks, bricks, and even a good landscape rock as a wheel chock in a pinch)

But really, that's a pretty wild tube chassis stang!
