All reruns now. I enjoyed the shows where they showed how they did the work and products they used to make it happen. The rest to me was filler.

Oh and this pisses me off. i thought the show was intended to steal ppl's cars that had this great dream of building a cool car but would NEVER be able to do it............. then they get Lance Armstrong, John Force, i would bet my left nut either of thoes guys could call chip and pay for the work, but hey i guess it's all about the money, ratings and i know with out those two there is no show. having some first had experiance with Pinks. even tho our episode was very calm with good racing there was alot of tension but the editor and producer chose the high road and decided to not show the BS drama and only show the racing, so good on them,

Wow sorry

I highly agree with you and Scott!

These "fake drama" and celebrity a@@ licking episodes makes just turn the channel. I wish there would be even one show without superfunny hosts and scam plans etc. Just the hole building process from strat to finish.

I guess they're trying to soothe our fear of camshafts & stuff.

Now if you want real car guy drama: "Ice Road Truckers" on the history channel. I would crap myself if the road underneath was cracking incessantly.

You hit the nail on the head!!
The worst is the skinny kid on Trucks! Every sentence has that stupid ass little girl laugh. What's even worse was when that big meat head did the same thing. :willy:

I can only imagine the hate mail that show gets.
IMO the worst show of all is on Speed. "Truck-U." Thirty minutes of the word DUDE does not make for good television.

I still prefer a bad car show to a "good" network show any day. The only thing I ever watch on the networks is football. The rest seems to be stale sitcoms, cookie cutter lawyer/forensics/ER dramas and mind numbing reality TV. I wish I got V8TV but I enjoy the web blogs!

I would cancel cable tomorrow if it wasn't for the Discovery Channel group, Speed TV and ESPN.

rich-allen 08-28-2007 04:58 AM

Good morning Ben,

I have Direct TV and get all those channels you mentioned.
We made the switch from cable a couple years and kicked ourselves for not doing it earlier.

The obnoxious commercials cable TV plays with guys cutting holes through trees and filling buckets with concrete to use dish are a proof how much better dish is over cable.

You never see commercials knocking cable on direct TV network. When you have a product that superior you don't worry about your customers switching over.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to look into it. Our internet and phone service is bundled with it now. That's a convenient feature but I could live without it.

I have the same problem Ben. My Highspeed internet is with my cable and my area does not have DSL. I guess I am stuck!

LOL - you know I don't get much time for TV but when I'm up late workin' on a project or the new house, if there's a car show on I will have it on even if I have to listen to the BS drama from American Hot Rod or watch the superbikes show. If there's engines revin' and it has wheels I'll put it on for background. I'm with Ben, car guys will even watch a crappy car show - beats watchin Ninja Warriors or or some other B-rated reality show. I agree though, If I'm really payin attention - Rides was a great show, Overhaulin' was good, and hoestly Pinks "All Out" is pretty good since there's more racing a lot more cars to watch.
I'm really disappointed with hard Shine, thought it'd be a really tough down to earth hot rod build show. When I saw the girl crying at the end of the last episode Tom Hanks shoulda popped out from behind the scenes and yelled "THERE'S NO CRYING IN BUILDING HOT RODS!"
She shoulda been taken off the show 3 episodes ago - I missed one episode and yes I watch it because it's better than NO car show. The episode where they actually had Jimmy fly out with the one guy with the glasses to his house and shop back home was cool. That guy can build some killer hot rods. They need more stuff like that!

It's called Gearz and is becoming my new favorite show. Good info and no drama. He even tells you what things cost.

HAHA, wow....almost lost it after reading that. Personally, I go to the garage to get away from drama. There's nothing like the feeling you get from that micro-victory that takes you that much closer to completion....or "completion". American hotrod.....can't stand it. There's nothing there for me. It's like a show about a distributing company freaking out because their package isn't there yet except there's cars in the background. Wrecks to Riches was ok, except that somehow EVERY build was started 3 minutes before it went to auction. Then the boss would sit at his desk stressing that they wouldn't be done in time. Plus, all the before and after shots were done with a crappy star wipe that would just give you a glancing shot of a million angles. I don't want to just see a red car. I want slow shots from sick angles where I can pick out ideas for my own cars. I like American Musclecar for the oldschool footage and the history of the cars. That, to me, is very cool. Rides I enjoyed, especially the show on Hammer. Pimp my ride....no words to describe how funny that is. Who knew that every college student wanted a plasma in the trunk and a waterfall for a console. Pinks could be good, but there's way too much bickering.....and I just realized how long this post is, so I'll cut it here. I'm glad there's a wide range of car shows, but I don't want spoon fed mass appeal. I want popular hotrodding in widescreen with all the tricks and details highlighted and focused on.

I'm totally with you Scott!

I'd like to see a car show that really is a real show about building cars, with REAL guys and gals working on cool cars. Something like what probably many of use have experience first hand.

I know when I get together with my buds to work on cars or bikes - we laugh, loose some skin, scratch our heads, poke fun at one another, drink a few coldies, hopefully make some progress, and have a good time doing it all. We don't bitch about one another, we don't slam doors, stomp around, or throw tantrums. And I've never left the place crying. Okay.... maybe once, but that was only because I was laughing so damn hard.

If I want to watch an UNreality TV show about cars, then I'll watch American Body Shop. If you haven't seen it, it's like Reno-911 mixed with American Chopper.
