Too bad it was not a $100 bill blocking one of those holes.

Getting greasy huh. Might as well go get you a cherry picker and put it on the stand. If it's locked up you not going to find it until the main and rod caps come off. I have one you can borrow if you need it.

Pretty sure we could work something out. |

Could be that it was used to block the exhaust crossover. But then you would find one more. The other one maybe caused the havoc if it fell down on the rotating parts. Jan |

Well now I know what that crossover is for. lol Only found the one so far. Off to buy some tools to get at the accessory dive. Once that's all off I'll pull it for the remainder of the tear down. It's a bummer regardless, but if it's from a dime that would make it a little worse. |
I bought my stand from Harbor Freight. Good up to 2000 lbs and is a 4 point. It was under $100 bucks. Probably not the best quality but my fully dressed big block has been setting on it for months. It would laugh at that little mouse. I would be suprised if a dime caused your problem. Especially since you were out of coolant.

wow...bummer!
been there,done that...hope it's repairable. |

Sorry.. couldn't resist.. sorry to see the trouble, the dime is wierd but it doesn't sound like that was your issue. Did the car have a water temp gauge? Did it show hot? Let us know when you figure out the issue.. |

Don't you have some work you should be doing! |
Got back from a lovely three weeks in Venezuela and decided I needed a little help. So I picked up the phone and called in my people. Trust me when I say they make all of us look bad when they work on stuff. Didn't take them long to get that thing yanked and on the stand. Once the oil pan was off the problem was obvious. Two pistons shattered...why still not sure. Crazy!

Thats nuts how did a dime get in the intake lol but at least when it blew you wasn't hurt or hit a car is fixable or can be replaced you cant be.
|
That's crazy how that happened! Now get that new motor in there!!

How far was it bored out?
|
sorry about your loss but **** happens!
To me it looks like the head can be saved, it might need a weld but it should be good to go again. what can you save as far as the rest of the parts? |

Curtis popped his Cherry! His first auto engine failure, and boy was it spectacular.
We'll get another heart in your girl as soon as possible. Just let me know when to make another house call. Tyler |

I'm sure if you are really disappointed with your paperweight, it would go nicely in my garage next to my '67 paperweight.

Is that Tyler taking a nap under the car?
Sorry to hear about the engine kaboom Curtis, I feel awful about it since you bought it from me. I don't know who built that engine, since the previous owner installed it before I bought it. It sure did run good before this carnage happened though. Those heads should be easily repairable, the benefits of aluminum. They just weld up the scratched areas and grind them smooth again. I've had much worse mangled aluminum heads get repaired like new. Measure the diameter of those cylinders, I'm curious about how big they were bored. Yes, those cylinder walls look thin, but that is pretty much how all cylinder walls appear. I'm betting the walls gave in, and then the pistons got eaten by the fragments. If you need additional help on LS1 related stuff, let me know. I have a few connections  Tony |
So what are you gonna put in it???:unibrow:

I dropped off a 350 short block, heads, intake, etc. yesterday to an engine shop here in Vegas. They are giving it all a good going over and should have some info on building it up in the next day or two. Once it's all back together I'm going to put it on the Dyno so it's running at it's peak. I'll post the measurements on those cylinders as soon as I get them. I know a lot of people are wondering the same thing you are. While it's down I've decided to add a few new parts and when it hits the road again it will have a new stance and stop a heck of a lot faster (not that it was bad before). Having the rear wheels re-hooped so they tuck in and finally adding the RS kit. I send and post some pictures as things move along. I've gotten a lot of support from some great people! Anthony, Tyler, Frank, Steve O, AJ and many others have been wonderful. It's all good and thanks!! |
