Great looking camaro, cannot wait to see it done. To get a 275 on the front, are you dialing out some of the steering so that the tires will not rub?

Yeah, I actually thought it wasn't gonna be possible (as many have said) but we are using stock from subframe and Air Ride Strong Arm control arms and our mock up shows it will fit, and not sticking outside the fender. I should have pics in the next couple weeks as I am heading up to see the car and make interior and other detail decisions. Will post pics then. Is that your Camaro in your avatar? Let's see some pics of that! cheers |

Flash68,
What size wheel do you have and with what backspacing? The car pictured in my avatar is what I am currently working towards. The car is a 68 Camaro that was originally painted British Green. I don't know if want to take it back to the original color. Paint is one of the hardest decisions to make. I would like to stay with an original color. I am toying around with painting it Corvette Bronze with the black SS stripe. Right now, I am debating whether to modify the stock frame. I currently have the Global West upper control arms. If I stay with the original frame, I plan on getting the Global West lower control arms and running air bags. I would get the ATS tall spindles and Lee power steering. I would like to run 19" wheels all the way around and would like 19X9s on the front. If I don't use the stock frame, I will most likely go with the AME subframe with air bags. In the rear, I am planing on using the mini tubs from Detroit Speed and use the G-bar with air bags and a 9" rearend. I use Photoshop to edit the cars and try out different wheel combinations. I am going to use the RS grill but will shave the bottom turn signals and possibly fender turn signals as well. On the back, I will be using the 1967 Marquez tail lights but will shave the back up lights on the bottom. I might black out the rear panel, not sure yet. Here are a few wheels I have narrowed it down to. The first car is to show you the image I started with (not my actual car). The second and third images use the IForged Essen wheel, gray then black. The fourth one is the Kinesis with a red pinstripe. The last one is a Fikse. Let me know what you think |
Welcome Derek! What part of the NW are you in...I'm near Portland. You should start a thread in the new members forum!!
I hope you still have plans of using turn signals...perhaps hiding them? I think that car needs black centered wheels! And sticking with green wouldn't be bad at all...I for one like that darker green! What are the plans for the motor/trans? Ok, back to Flash's thread now......;) |
Great renderings. I am with Anthony - I'd say go with black wheels.
i just emailed my builder to ask what the new specs are cuz the measurements I gave him for the 1st attempt were not good! DOH! I will let you know when I get the numbers back. I did my research and thought I nailed it but apparently not. I believe they were 18x9.5 with a 5.5 inch backspacing. Think they are now something like 18x9 with 6 inch BS.... Anthony - checked out your pics. Your car is looking rad! |
I was close. My fronts are now 18x9 with 6.25" backspacing.

In front I have 18x9 w/ 5.625" b.s. and a 245 tire, using a stock spindle and track width. This puts the tire basically at the same location as a 8" wheel w/ 5" b.s. |
updated pics
finally got some updates for the Camaro. And a couple previews of the custom gauge assembly.

update
Time for an update. Went up to see the car for the first time time in months, and while I wish it was done of course, it was nice to say for the first time I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and the car looks to be getting close to getting running and time for troubleshooting and road tuning.
I did figure out I don't like the shifter location on my TKO 600, but I did originally plan to run a console, and now that has changed so we are sending back to Keisler to have them move that back about 3.5 inches. It would be okay if I kept the current bent shifter stick that came with it, but I am set on a straight stick, so that's gotta go. Oh well. I also don't like the angle of the gauge panel that was built so that is getting modified so it sinks back into the dash area and lines up better with the sight path. The stock tank we had baffled and sumped is interesting to me. It does hand out a tad bit lower than the pumpkin which I don't think is a problem, and I don't expect a fuel delivery/starvation issue (as least I was told this would be okay). Anyone disagree with that? I'm curious.... I took 50 pics and you can see more on my album (the last 50 at the bottom are the ones I took 2 days ago). But here are some of highlight photos of where things are at. http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF2231.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF2233.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF2235.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF2239.jpg http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/f...8/DSCF2254.jpg |

Looking good man....this is a tough stage. I wouldn't push to hard because the details are very important. It's at that stage. The fuel pump setup has me a little worried. The dash looks killer. The paint looks like Tony's rendering. I like it man.
|

Yeah, what exactly are your worries on the fuel pump setup? The plan is to put a heat shield flap over it to protect it. Yeah, Tony and I actually talked paint colors. I think his will be a little lighter than mine in real life based on the Ferrari I saw in that color. We might be sorta like twins a little bit. |
It's straight uphill to the pump from the sump. Definitely not ideal. It may work ok for a while but I bet you end up redesigning it sooner that you like. I spent more hours than I would like to admit plumbing fuel systems in my beast. Aeromotive would tell you the same thing. External pump is just not ideal to be honest on these cars.

But yes you may be right. This thing could end up getting redone. :( |
Yep, the colors are close, mine is a litttle lighter....they both will look killer!!
Is he going to pull the interior to paint the dash? And when does he plan on doing that...soon I hope! Also, how's the angle of the gauges when sitting in the seat? They look to be pointig down a bit? Not picking it appart...just trying to help you get what you pay for! |
Looks Good, keep the updates coming.

Yep the dash angle is no bueno so that is getting redone. Just needs to be recessed back inside there a bit to make it on the same sight line and angle as the steering column. |

Just found this thread...
Glad to see someone finally put the slick '69 RS taillights IMHO on a '68 (or a '67 for the matter). I like your paint color also, very classy. |

I love spending other people money! You will be glad you did. Fuel problems means stranded and pissed off. :D
|
You will be happy you are redoing the system! As Todd stated, the fuel system is quite important!!
Any updates? |
