You know TJ is always sleeping on the job.
If it isn't for TJ then its for Tim cause old guys need to take a nap once during the day to recharge the old batteries.

Sweet project. Quick question for you Dodge guys. I saw a Duster for sale locally that I could pick up kind of cheap. Was wondering what kind of tire you can fit under one without a mini tub job. Anybody know?

A bodys are the worst for tire size, i fit a 10inch slick in the back of my dart, theres pics in my build thread of how it looks, you would have a very similar size to what it is(the link in my signature is to the thread)

Duster/Demons have bigger rear tubs than Dart's.......I dont know specifically know the size but on Bigblockdart a search could easily find out.

Tunnel is finished.....

Pushed the car outside for a bit. Gotta get the wheels painted...way too blingy for me. Rear suspension is done now, Tim just finished a rear splined sway bar....will get pics soon.

Once the bellhousing gets here, a bunch of little stuff to finish up. Then exhaust and modify the rear roll cage bars. :)

I think a 275mm-285mm wide tire on a 10" rim. Leaf springs would be the first clearance issue. You can do a leaf spring inboard kit, Mopar or Mancini Racing sells them.

Check out www.forabodiesonly.com The guys there aren't really into heavily modified Abodies like mine, but would know for sure on the rear wheel question.
Thanks for the compliment

71duster 02-12-2009 08:50 PM

holy hell! i would be happy with a 9"! i'll check out that other site for sure. thanks for the info! and keep the pics coming on your project! can't wait to see it done!

71dusterjon 02-12-2009 09:54 PM

i just moved the springs which isn't hard and you'll probably end up doing it sometime down the road and i have a M/T 29x12.5x15 in the back.

Thought I'd update a bit.....

The first pic is before the cage was re-done

Tim re-built the cage......less "pro-street" more passenger friendly. Installed a splined rear sway bar. Rear suspension finally done, triangulated 4 link, backbraced 8 3/4, and rear bar.

Gotta get the right coilovers now......any suggestions? 90%street/10% track

Ned do it now...go with your gut!!

Rob, it looks awesome...I need to get over there!! When will it leave for paint? What's left to do fab wise?

Thanks Anthony
It will come home for paint.....my brother is a painter. Just waiting on Quicktime for a bellhousing, then all the stainless hardlines can get done...hopefully in a couple weeks, not holding my breath on Qucktime.

I got plans for a spoiler (thanks Ned), some bumper/valance work, exhaust, custom door handles and a few other things......so paint is a while off unfortunately. Parking it next to the Etiket Challenger has rubbed off on it.....

you have alot of patients, I would just go with another tranny and get things going.

I already bought the transmission......when I talked to Quicktime at SEMA and was told Jan 09, I assumed Jan 09 and ordered the transmission

I bought an adapter already and it was wrong, .......I could have another one made for $1000.

DRJDVM's '69 04-11-2009 05:42 PM

Its gonna be near impossible for me to take the car back up there for more work down the line...so when/if I do a cage, I will probably have to do it locally.

Tim would do an awesome job I'm sure....but right now I have other priorities for the $$. Plus ideally I'd like to have my seats finalized and some other stuff in the interior all figured out before I do a cage... that way I can make sure the cage fits with the interior rather than the opposite. Its got pros/cons with either approach

I've even considered not doing a cage to keep the interior more simple and clean....but I want a 4 or 5 point harness so.....it will likely happen sooner or later.

We'll see......

Very nice :) I love all the hard line........

Whats the story on the headers? I thought you did the S&P ones.... just cleaned them up and rewelded ?

Any the end pieces for the lower control arms ? I want some :)

And the bulhead for the lines coming from the firewall.... I want details

Love the dash too..did Tim build that entire thing? Very nice..

Details please......

We ordered the headers from S&P un-welded. They were only tacked to the flanges in case they needed to be "altered." They fit surprisingly well considering the changes that we've made to the engine mounting location (centered, modified k-member, etc) so Tim went ahead and welded them up.

Rob's alterKation kit is an earlier version than yours and had one long 5/8" bolt, washers, and nylock nut that attached the lower control arms to the k member. Tim machined a shaft and end caps with countersunk fasteners. Looks much cleaner than before IMO.

The factory 6.1 HEMI heater tubes are plumbed into the firewall behind the intake. Tim plumbed the other two A/C lines with stainless hard line to the compressor and condensor/drier (minus a couple short sections off the compressor).

Rob will probably chime in on the dash insert, but he bought it from a company that is no longer in business if memory serves...
