Sweet...

Welcome Kris and Auto-meter !! Are you kidding me !?!! Its partially your company's fault for what it is what I do for a living. And then you tease with talk of a 'custom' shop. You bastards.

Outstanding integration of the embedded/programmable warning light BTW. That really reduces the need for more (and unnecessary) transducers and associated wiring. Ahhh... technology is a beautiful thing.

Yeah ?? Well... aren't you too. Its gonna take a few more than eight or nine to get into the "gauge junkie status."

I'm currently at 18. But then again... I'm an Instrumentation Engineer/junkie... so its not quite fair. I started out with Sport-Comp, then replaced them with Pro-Comp Liquid Filled... and now its Full Sweep electric Ultra-Lite's. It's a habbit I dont recommend for most...

So, you're trying to make your car look like the one from the movie XXX? I can't drive a car like I'm flying an airplane. Driving by guages is just too much. Do you have a radar too?

The point for the 240 MPH Gauge would be the same reason people spend $35,000 for a twin Turbo 1400 HP Engine that runs on pump gas, will probably never get more than 10-12,000 miles put on it.

Over the $35,000 1400 HP Engine of course are the Billet $700 Hood Hinges that look so cool, topped off of course with a Full Carbon Fiber $1400 Hood.

The same car has seating for 4 and nice big Sterio System with 1000 watts of Power and 12 Speakers. The billet Door latches, the billet rear light fixtures complete the car.......... till you get your next Pay check.

The point is, they would be cool, different and absolutely necessary for your first run up of many, with all the Bugatti Verons your likely to encounter while traveling through Lubbock, Texas at 3:00 am.

Two many cars can do 200 MPH and that gauge is now passe. 240 mph, now that is something different, that would make the correct statement in the cockpit of your $120,000 1969 Camaro.

The reason I would buy one is, for Sh*ts, Giggles and have a cool gauge n one else has.

You need to have a speedo that says at least the number of the worlds fastest production car.

I know I've been a Smart Ass, all I've tried to say is, it would be the biggest, latest and greatest, and if i was going to spend $3000+ on gauges for my car I'd buy one of them two because it would be cool. I know 60 mph would look like school zone range on the gauge regarding the actual sweep, but it would be a cool thing to tide us over until Auto Meter could give us "Heads Up Display", and a 300 MPH Speedo.

The Next Auto Meter Buzz Word, "Heads Up Display", for first generation Camaro's.

Now we can start this conversation all over again after I phone my order in for the first one. ;-)

Ty

People that go that speed won't be looking at their speedo's...

Heheeee as Tyler said ; Billet hinges? I don't see the point...But its fun and cool:lateral:

chicane 04-06-2008 02:28 PM

Then I guess its time to just step up to a MACH meter then...

XcYZ 04-06-2008 07:36 PM

I guess what I was getting at is that if you're traveling at 240mph, you're going 352 ft/sec... that's the distance of a football field in 852 milliseconds. :faint:

XcYZ 04-14-2008 12:15 PM

Kris, maybe you have this already, not sure... but it would be cool if you could have multiple sending units hooked to one gauge and be able to switch between inputs. Like say, if you had oil temp, trans temp and rear end temp and with a push of a button, you could toggle between inputs A, B and C.

Meter Man 04-25-2008 04:11 PM

Chicane,

Thanks for the kind words. Suppose I shouldn't point you in the direction of the Full Sweep Electric Ultra-Lites with Peak & Warning functions that the NASCAR teams are using right now then huh? :D

Ty & Bowtie,

Thanks for the additional input on the high mile per hour speedos. I've been keeping our product development team up to speed on the discussion here.

Scott,

Regarding the toggling between sensors, we have in the past done similar things with EGT and Intake temperature gauges (both of which curiously enough did not sell very well and were subsequently discontinued). :( For the situation you've described with the Oil, Diff, and Trans temp the switching that you're talking about is possible. Our Tech group has a Diff temp installation scheduled for a Jeep for front and rear axles, and we'll be doing a write up on the installation process and wiring for our website. I'd be happy to pass along a link when it becomes available. We've got a few more pressing projects in front of it though, so it might be a while. I'd be happy to put you in touch with one of our techs if you have specific questions in that area.

While I'm at it, I'm going to take the opportunity to plug the new Install Tips & Guides section of our site where we're answering some of the more common and in depth product install questions that we receive. We're always looking for new ideas, so if you have questions you'd like to see answered there, send them my way.

Well... funny thing. I am now in the process of replacing my liquid filled Pro Comps... with full sweep electric Ultra-Lites... with the peak / warning lights. Not just for the surface functions... but mainly for the instrumentation/acquisition output that the full sweep electrics have.

So... there goes another $3k... :faint:

How about cutting a brother a break ??

Thank you Kris!! I see this is lateral-g at its best. To keep up conversation between manufacturer and end users:cheers: In the end all this will benefit both side. Very intresting. Let us know if something is taken on serious consideration.

Well, it's not exactly going to help with the Peak & Warn Ultra-Lites, but you might consider checking out the Cash for your Dash rebate thread just posted. All of the Next Generation LED lit instruments are covered, including full sweep electric stepper models.

I'm going to post a link to the details HERE for folks that are lazy like me.

bigtyme1 04-29-2008 03:12 PM

Kris, I'd like to take advantage the deal, do you when the custom gauges are going to be availible?

if I get this in the Ultra lite I will it match the ultra lite II? you done offer it in the II but it looks the same.

Meter Man 05-01-2008 07:09 PM

bigtyme1,

The custom gauge project which I had discussed earlier is still in development and I do not believe currently will launch until mid to late summer. There have been a couple items holding the process up that I believe we may have reached solutions for, so things will be continuing in full in the coming weeks. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated.

Regarding the DPIC, yes, the Ultra-Lite version is a direct match for the Ultra-Lite II instruments, the only minor differences being that the dial says Ultra-Lite rather than Ultra-Lite II, and that only the LED display and radials illuminate, similar to the Wideband gauge that Scott has pictures of for his dash.

If there are any other instrument questions that I can help answer, let me know.

bigtyme1 05-01-2008 07:16 PM

Thanks for getting back to me Kris, That will be my set up for now. But I may wait for the custom option.

Well, "soon" took a bit longer than I had hoped, but I now finally have pictures of the officially licensed Ford Racing instruments to share with you. Check out the attached thumbnails and this link to see all the details of the new series!

Thanks!

bigtyme1 07-02-2008 07:03 PM

Kris , how is the time line on the custom gauges coming?

Meter Man 07-03-2008 12:54 PM

Hey bigtyme1,

Thanks for the inquiry. We've been ironing out a few kinks here and there. I've just heard some good news in terms of approvals and will be getting to start building the web interface starting later this month. Right now targets are looking like September-October for official release of the Custom Shop.

Thanks!

Latest news on launch?

bigtyme1 09-04-2008 07:37 PM

Yea, keep us posted. I think this will be a big win for Autometer.

Meter Man 09-23-2008 12:39 PM

Guys,

Thanks for the continued interest! We're still working hard on this project but it looks like launch is being pushed back to 1st quarter of 2009 in order to make sure we can complete the rest of the SEMA products on time. For those of you that won't be able to make the show, I'll be sure to post releases and pictures here as soon as we're able.

Keep us posted. Kris, will you be at the show?

Meter Man 09-23-2008 02:40 PM

Will do for sure. Yes, I'll be attending both the SEMA and PRI shows, though at PRI I'll be spending most of my time over at the STACK display. If you're going to be at either event, please stop by our displays I'd be happy to introduce myself and answer any questions.

bigtyme1 06-14-2009 07:31 PM

Kris, how is the custom gauges coming? Also do you have any Scratch and dent just for tunning purposes?

Meter Man 06-18-2009 02:09 PM

Been a while since I posted anything here, bigtyme1 thanks for the call back to action. The Custom Shop project has been placed on hold for the time being, at this point I don't have a completion date for the project. In the mean time we will be processing pointer and bezel change orders through our phone staff whom you can contact at 1-866-248-6356 to discuss what options are available and the costs associated. If you're looking for something more custom than that before we're able to launch the Custom Shop project, I'd recommend contacting http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com for assistance with your project. Shannon is familiar with our products and offers additional capability for customization of our instruments that are currently not available directly through the factory.
