Have they ever had the inners in the car yet? That's when mine got real....interesting! :_paranoid

96z28ss 09-04-2008 10:37 PM

The inners were in the car at some point. not sure if the front end was fit with them in. The inners need to be modified anyways cause of the C5 control arms.

TJ can chime in here and say if the inners were fit while gapping the car.

most likely they will throw the fitment off then they can tack on more hours to fix it and make more money isn't that how shops work... :D  :unibrow:

Ouch! :faint:

The inners were installed during the initial panel fitment and also for bumper bracket/headlight assembly mockup. The door to quarter, fender to door, fender to hood fitment/gaps won't change (unless you decide to do the bodywork yourself :D ). Minor adjustments can/will be made to each panel at the hinges, etc.

The inner fenders were removed since they need to be modified for your subframe, but bumpers were higher on the list. We could have installed them and then charged you to remove them at a later date. Another good way to tack on more hours.... :unibrow:

Rear Bumper updates.

Rear tail panel was cut and a channel was made for the bumper be recessed in.
The car is really starting to take shape. It really does change the whole look of the car.

Things will get trimmed and smoothed out and it will flow better.

Its fine, I plan on driving it more than you guys think.
Don't you guy ever go down neighborhoods where there are big speed bumps.

If I lower the car too much I won't be able to visit the shop when the car is done. I'll have to park my car on the street and walk a 1/4 mile down the driveway to the shop.

96z28ss 09-10-2008 11:03 AM

Most of the trimming is done on the tail panel.

Also I didn't like the way most of the camaros looked with tucked bumpers the ends have way too much of an arc and look like an old truck bumper. So Tim and his awesome abilities at metal fabrication, hammered and reshaped the ends of the bumper. Giving the front and rear more of a matching appearance.

Sinister

I had the oppotunity to see SINISTER in person recently. My wife and I stopped by the shop on our cross-country vacation.

SINISTER looks great in-person. Photos are nice, but there is nothing like seeing it in person, especially in this stage of the project.

Keep up the great work...... and I'm glad to hear that you plan on driving the car a lot. These (our) cars should be driven!

HI GUY'S
I hope this is'nt a dumb question. On he rear bumper did you fabricate the ends or did you cut down the originals??

We modified the stock ends. Looked into modifying 69' front bumper ends, but the peak wouldn't have the same effect on the back.

96z28ss 09-15-2008 06:28 PM

more shots of the rear bumper and shows how the ends were reshaped to give the bumper more of a similar look to the front. The stock rear bumper just looked to much of a bubble.

http://www.automotivedesigneng.com/g...pdates_010.JPG

I like how they use the quarter panel as a sketch pad.

http://www.automotivedesigneng.com/g...stance_003.JPG

This shot also shows where the license plate recess on the bumper was shortened to match the opening in the rear valance.
From the factory the bumper opening is wider than the valance.

The rear looks way cool.....:D

Bumper treatment may have to be in line for my car now...

awr68 09-15-2008 07:38 PM

Next time you are out there you should start taking the tape off the wheels..that might take a while! What's it been two years? :_paranoid

cars looking great Bob/BAD!!

Thanks Anthony. Of all the things Bob would change, the use of "Home Depot" blue tape would probably be number 1. :)

96z28ss 09-16-2008 04:07 PM

here is a picture of the way the car is sitting now.

Plenty of ride height to drive down gravel roads

I read that you dropped the supercharger off for mock up. Where do they/you want it mounted?

96z28ss 01-19-2009 12:13 PM

In my car the supercharger is mounted already. I let them use it for mock up on Neds cuda.

Jr 01-19-2009 12:55 PM

Do you have any new pics? What radiator did you go with?

DRJDVM's '69 01-19-2009 01:16 PM

Any thank you for that :)

Good news is it looks like it will all fit if I do decide to go with the Procharger...thats still up in the air right now, but now I know its still possible.

Here is an update,
Since there has been so much talk about Billet door handles, I thought I'd give a sneak peak at what Tim did for my new door handles.
This is just a teaser, I will not show the final door handle till its done.

Tim made a die, to stamp the metal, to give it the correct shape and to have both sides match exactly.

http://www.automotivedesigneng.com/g...camaro/003.JPG

Tig welded to the door and then cleaned up.

Bob, thought you were going soft for a minute there... :unibrow:

awr68 03-31-2009 06:02 PM

The final product is SEXY...yeah it's nice to live near Bruning!

96z28ss 09-30-2009 04:25 PM

Been a long time since an update.
There were some things that I wanted changed on the rear bumper and tail panel, after staring at it for a long time I made up my mind and went ahead and changed it. Also the tail panel was a repo part and the stamping just wasn't good around the tail lights and other areas. I had the original from when they cut it out, so Tim decided he wanted to put that one on there.
It looks alot better. I machined a die and stamped the shape I need for the fuel door, it makes it look like it was meant to be there.

Here are some teaser pics. from iphone. Real pics will come as soon as i get them off the camera.

96z28ss 09-30-2009 05:24 PM

lots of things on the wish list just not sure what will get done.
I'm still operating on my paycut at work, if I could get that back it would help speed things up. Plan is to finish stuff working from the rear to the front of the car.

awr68 09-30-2009 05:39 PM

Well, do what you can! And I think it's a great idea to finish something and move onto another part of the car...jumping around doesn't really get you to the finish line!

Al Moreno 09-30-2009 05:45 PM

Fuel Filler is looking good, I like it.

I can't see what changes to the bumpers and tail pan were enhance from the previous mods. Can you elaborate?

Thanks, keep the pics coming.

The ends of the bumpers were changed to be a bit more flat. Hard to explain the change without seeing it in person. It was an improvement.
The tail panel chage was the addition of the fuel door, but also changeing the tail panel out for an original GM one, the stamping is much better especially around the tail lights. Also the repo driver side rear quarter were it meets the tail panel had to be reshaped cause it didn't match the passenger side.

68/Camaro 10-01-2009 06:05 AM

Excellent work going on here!!

tones2SS 10-01-2009 08:40 AM

She's looking good.
Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

96z28ss 10-02-2009 11:00 AM

Here are some better pictures to see the changes.
Bumper lines were sharpened a bit and the corner of the rear quarter had to be reshaped to match the passenger side rear quarter.
