I believe the mirrors are from a 70s A body, if you look at the pedistal, they mount with two threaded studs. The 2nd gen camaro sport mirrors mount different. Im pretty sure there are subtle differences in the pedestal area as well.

Build is looking good.
Hopefully you can stuff the LS7 in between those fender braces!!! GOOD LUCK!  |
pretty sure the mirrors are 73-77. If you check ebay theres usually a set up for auction, I just checked theres a white set going off in the next 18 hours, check it out search "chevelle sport mirrors"
Thanks Tones- I hope so too  Rich |
Hey Rich,
I've been following the build on mcc.com and showing the guys here at work and the construction is amazing! The torch red looks killer on the grill. Its kinda funny, the young guys here had no idea you could take a car that far down and bring it back to a full body! Huge thumbs up to Mikes custom cars! :wow: Talk to ya soon Steve |
Hey Steve, glad your enjoying it, Mike's attention to detail is incredible, I was really impressed with his welding skills, when you walk around his shop theres so much to see. Everything from tube chassis cars to camaro's and tons of other stuff in between. Woke up this morning here in jersey 2 degrees, Mike said it was 8 degrees in South Carolina. You guys must be pretty damn cold as well in Georgia. Crazy weather, eastern seaboard in a deep freeze, it s*cks!
I think we are coming down the home stretch, Im hoping Mike has it done towards the end of February. He's got a ton more pics to post on his site so stay tuned. Talk to ya later- Rich |
LS7? Damn you!!!! :D
|

|
OK, Tommy showed me the pics of the jewel! How about you share with the rest of the crowd eh? We need updates Richie! :P
|
Well things are starting to move a bit, I pulled the trigger and ordered the LS7 and yes Steve it does have a clutch  . Also took advantage of Katech's sale during February and got the torquer cam/springs and retainers. Its been a learning experiance, since Im not really educated on the newer LS engines. But one that I really enjoyed. The engine came apart almost as soon as it hit my garage floor, Big thanks to Scott Gulbranson for answering my endless questions and helping me out in my times of panic. Speartech is putting together the electronics and Peterson is building the dry sump tank. Headers will probably be 2" Lemons unless I can find something in stainless that fits the DSE chassis well and doesn't cost me 3k. Not sure about an accessory drive system right now. Here's some pics of the motor just out of the crate and then going through the cam install, check out the size of the intake ports on the heads, there huge.

Very cool Rich, congrats...I would love to have that gem!!
What are you considering for front drive systems? What oil pan and motor mounts will you be using? |
Thanks Anthony, Im staying with the stock ls7 dry sump pan its a perfect fit in the DSE subframe using DSE motor mounts.
Im really undecided on the accessories, but doing alot of research on the 066 and 067 stock GM drive systems. One is corvette stuff and the other is cadi cts-v stuff. They really are cost effective, certainly dont look the greatest but they work, perhaps a little powder coating can doll them up a bit. They both use a remote style ps reservoirs mounted fairly close to the pump. I just dont know how difficult it will be to plumb my hydroboost through the big bracket that supports the alt and ps pump. Other than that I do believe they will fit under the hood with no problems. Its also a no AC car so fitting the accessories isn't to much of a problem. |
Souncs good! There's nothing wrong with using GM parts! And yes a little coating can certainly help with the looks...I'm dealing with the same thing as I'm using a stock LT1 bracket on my build.
|
When will you be installing the engine? Its a sweet package you have there.
|
As soon as Mike finishes painting the car, pick up for mid April. We will attach the subframe/rear at Mikes shop and bring it home to Jersey as a roller. Drive train and the rest of the car will be assembled in my shop(home garage).

Oh so very cool! I cant believe the LS7 comes with a flywheel/clutch/pressure plate, thats very cool, half the time Tommy doesnt know what hes talking about! :D  . Dont tell him I said that :_paranoid I've got your 67' as my wallpaper now, my wife loves it. 67-68' are her favs. :hail:
|
Are you using a factory interior or something different?
|
DSE dash w/autometer ultralite 2s, recaro's or corbeau's, the rest factory, no console. moderate sound system and a stick shift. nothing to custom or fancy:thumbsup:

Mike you are the "Trepanier of the camaros" :hail: Totally awsome body work!! |
Nice build, lookin forward to seeing more! great choices so far.
|
very cool build!
Mikes work is excellent |
Starting to make some progress with the drivetrain and thought I would share it with you guys. I installed the engine and TKO 600 in the chassis and fit the new DSE headers. I thought for sure I would be doing surgery on the transmission crossmember, especially since the engine was moved back an inch.Turned out great and fit right in there.
Perhaps you guys can help me out with a drive angle question, the angle finder on the trans shows it going down almost 5 degrees. Should I bring it up by shimming the crossmember plate that the trans mount sits on? Or a thick piece of steel between the trans and mount? What is the ideal angle, Im running the dse 4 link? Thanks Rich Heres a few more pics: http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture087.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture110.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture108.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...Picture109.jpg Rich |
That looks GREAT Rich!! :hail:
|
Very nice, cant wait to see this one done.
|
To be safe place the angle finder on the output shaft and or the balancer to check the angle. I would shim between the trans and crossmember. I will be running a 3 degree down hill angle, but I am running leaf springs. I would call DSE to see what they recommend for angle.
By the way those are some very nice pieces parts you have there. Can't wait to see it finished |
It looks like a work of art! Very Nice
|
Is this the camaro on mikescustomcars.com that was basically rusted away to nothing but the supports inside the body?
If so you guys are insane! Nice work but insane! |
That front clip and motor look AMAZING!!!

Man those engine pics look sweet! :wow:

WOW! where to begin, the project has been moved forward, Im excited. Mikes custom cars did a beautiful job on the sheet metal and paint. Big thanks to Mike for letting me and my brother invade his shop for a near 10 hour all day thrash, installed the rear and subframe with Mike so we could turn the car into a roller and trailer it home to NJ. Its literally a brand new 69 camaro with lots of DSE goodies. If you want to check out Mikes web site he has 100s of pics up on the sheet metal magic that he does. Here's a few pics, Ive got few issues with the wheels to resolve, and anxious to move it along.

WOW That looks awesome!!! I think I just shorted out my key board from drool , Atleast I think it was drool. I wouldn't sleep for a week bringing that home. I love the color. We need a lot of pictures as it goes together.
I love it. |
Looking good!
You said you had issues with the wheels, what's wrong? You didn't happen to have valve stems hitting the brake calipers did you? Matt |
You are one very lucky man. Congrats
Can't wait to see more :woot: |

Well of course he did! That's what happens with those hidden little gems... I had that issue with the Budniks and the Wilwoods on the 55 post car... Wow what a great looking build!!! |
Sick, have fun putting her together.

Man that thing looks good. Can't wait to see it finished.

[QUOTE=69MSA;285751]Looking good!
You said you had issues with the wheels, what's wrong? You didn't happen to have valve stems hitting the brake calipers did you? Matt[/QUOTE Thanks. Yes the valve stems did hit, but we corected that a while back. We needed to put a .250 wheel spacer in to clear the big W6A calipers and that moved the wheel out and now its touching the fender. And the rear wheels need go about .250 deeper in. I have close to an inch and quarter on the inside of the rear. I just have to get a hold of Frank to get this straightened out. Rich |
SWEET!! Looks awesome Rich! I know your happy you finally got her home. I'll be following closely.
