nice... very, very nice.

tones2SS 09-30-2008 06:34 AM

Nice dude, she's coming along.
So what motor is going in? I know you said LSX FI around 750 hp??
Sounds like a monster. Is it a 427/454? Keep up the great work man!!!

GMracer 09-30-2008 08:28 AM

thanks!

as for the motor, the significant amount of work, chassis, custom front end, bodywork, wheels, interior, paint ect is going to leave me pretty low on cash, so for the first summer I'm going to run around with a cammed 6.0, bolt ons ect. Then the following winter I'll have the trans built and the motor built, I'm thinking turbo setup but I may settle for a d1sc, 402 I'm thinking about but still that is all up in the air due to the fact I have a lot more on my mind right now. I just can't wait to get the cab on and start building the body from there, it'll still be a silverado, but with some touches GM should have put into production.

NICE!!!!
That is awesome. A turbo'd 402 would be nice. You're doing great so keep up the great work.:thumbsup:

Grabbed my 4.8 to use for mockup
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1139.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1143.jpg
Cut and drilled some plates to mount to the engine for the engine side of the mount
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1153.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1157.jpg
Started to cut the tubing for the frame side of the mounts, and notching it
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1161.jpg

GMracer 10-20-2008 01:02 PM

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1165.jpg
Laid them out, trimmed where needed and tac'd them in place
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1167.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1168.jpg
All set and ready to go
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1187.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1188.jpg

GMracer 10-20-2008 01:02 PM

Welded up the motor plates solid, ran the piece across to prevent movement in the spacing
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1189.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1193.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1196.jpg
I plan to gusset between the two plates and on the sides before I powdercoat them
Since everything was tac'd I yanked the motor with my new motor hoist, bout time I bought one, I was sick of borrowing tools, "ask to borrow once, that's fine, twice, you should think about buying one, three times don't even ask"
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1200.jpg
Welded the mounts up solid

Put the motor plates back on
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1213.jpg
Put the bushings back in
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1216.jpg
This is my temporary trans x-member set at the right height an all, just ran out of material for my permanent one, the motor sits so the tailshaft is at a downward slope of 3*
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1214.jpg
Bombed the 4.8 to look better in pics  and put it back in for the week
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1218.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1219.jpg
The motor was moved up slightly 1.5" and back about 1" I wanted to get it lower back couldn't do so without compromising too much. This should be fine though.

jst8a5.0 10-20-2008 10:54 PM

Nice build! Where are you constructing this? Home or work or friend's house? It looks like your camera is a little like mine, blurry a lot!

GMracer 10-21-2008 04:23 AM

yea my camera sucks, I always shut off the flash since the flash pics look terrible, so I have to try to keep it steady. But this is at my dads shop right now, (fence business) but after the frame is ridid, it will come home to my 1 car garage and I will complete the build there.

mtlinvtns 10-22-2008 05:11 PM

smalll world

I was checking out your thread today at lunch and my dad leans over and says that he knows who's garage that is. My dad used to work next door at Ace. Pretty small world. Project looks great, the frame is coming out great. I have a shop in East bridgewater and if you need anything just give me a call or you can check out my website www.metalinnovationsinc.com. Once again very cool project. Thanks, Jon.

GMracer 10-23-2008 05:23 AM

wow, small world is right. Ace is going to be painting my truck, been friends with them for a while and have always helped me out. I check out the site, I see Nicks Ford everywhere, pretty cool looking. Looks like you do some nice work. Thanks for comments!

camaro2nv 10-23-2008 09:34 AM

Awesome work! Cant wait to see it done.

GMracer 12-23-2008 08:53 PM

UPDATES!!!!

Xmas break is hear and I want to get this frame done... so without further or do, tonights progress...

I wanted to tie in the two front crossmembers, so I began with some tubing

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1580.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1582.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1585.jpg

GMracer 12-23-2008 08:57 PM

Checked all the clearances
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1586.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1591.jpg
Now those tie them in, lets add some strength to the front end, what's stronger than an X?

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../HPIM15902.jpg

GMracer 12-23-2008 08:58 PM

Trans crossmember, the start
Cutting away with a cutoff wheel, and my almost gone sheet of 3/16"
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../HPIM15904.jpg
The outcome, well I used a holesaw for the holes
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../HPIM15905.jpg
Nice and tight fit
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../HPIM15906.jpg
Cut the top piece
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3.../HPIM15908.jpg
All tac'd

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1623.jpg
Now this plate will be welded to the frame and the nuts will be on the inside, a hole will be drilled to clearance the nuts and the plate will sit flush on the frame and welded all around.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1625.jpg
Then the other plate will be welded to the crossmember and allow it to be bolted in

well finished the trans crossmember...

Drilled some holes to recess the nuts
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1633.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1635.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1636.jpg
Cut the crossmember and tac'd it in place

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1645.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1647.jpg
Then played with some ideas for the next crossmember, and since I wanted to have one at the sweep up, and one 6" back from the ujoints I needed to come up with a good looking way to do so, instead of three round bars in a row, so I added another X
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...o/HPIM1648.jpg

GMracer 12-26-2008 09:28 PM

Cut some tubing, and notched the small pieces

GMracer 12-28-2008 10:01 PM

Rear suspension mock up, I HATE waiting for laser cut brackets to come in, so I took my sheet of 3/16"s and some cut off wheels and flap disks and made my own brackets... yet again
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec273.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec272.jpg
Mounted the bars
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec2713.jpg
Took my mandrels I ordered and got those ready to cut
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec2721.jpg
Cut and tac'd in place
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec286.jpg

GMracer 12-28-2008 10:01 PM

Now I want everything adjustable, that way I can play with my settings, but again I didn't want to wait for my brackets
so I made these too, then ran out for the other side
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec289.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec284.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec2819.jpg
Needed to space it out to match the axle side
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec287.jpg
The bolted extra bushing for spacer and ran out of material for the night
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec288.jpg

The plate is for JUST the top link, and allows 0*-10* change, 5 positions, all I need to do exactly what I need.
(shown in the 10* spot)

deuce_454 12-29-2008 04:17 AM

nice choice on going with a satchel link in the rear... that will keep your rollcenter low and fixed.... should make a huge difference in feel and controll over the oem frame.... and good work btw...

GMracer 12-29-2008 06:34 AM

yes sir, I played with every design I could and satchell ended up winning for best overall. I wanted to get a little more triangulation out of my lower bars, but since I'm setting up air ride as well I don't want my bars much shorter for fear or wheel movement. Should be ok though.

tones2SS 12-29-2008 01:09 PM

Progress is coming along which is good to see.
That's some good work man.

patriotformula 12-30-2008 11:37 AM

Nice man... this build is really inspiring! Makes me wanna ditch my fbody and build a full framed car. Anyways, and keep the pics coming!

GMracer 12-30-2008 08:50 PM

Grabbed another sheet of 3/16"
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...sto/Dec302.jpg
Built my upper link mounts, going to gusset behind them otherwise they are basically done
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec3011.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec3018.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec3019.jpg

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...to/Dec3027.jpg
As you can see here the holes I drilled on a 25" radius (same as bar length) no need to re thread as I adjust my bar angles
