ps yes ,im stretching the doors to fit the opening.

Thanks for the shout out and the credit, Bill! And thanks for being such an open minded customer!

Bill is a model design client. He has good taste and good ideas of his own but is open to any and all design ideas I come up with and has the ability to make them in sheetmetal. More artwork of this truck coming very soon. I need to hustle to stay ahead of Bill!

Coming along nicely Bill!! That's awesome that the windshield fit!!

andrewmp6 01-05-2009 07:35 AM

Looks great so far are you going to shave the cowl vent off.The notch about the rear window is that for a 3rd brake light or like the piece above a 58 impalas back window?

bill amsley 01-05-2009 06:36 PM

thanks for mentioning the 58 impala, i looked one up on ebay ,thats excatly the look im going for. no pics tonite, working on cab mounting, did more head scratching than actual work. my dad is chompin at the bit to start working his metal majic on the real tricky stuff. thanks bill

Very nice Bill--With the lengthened cab, are you going to leave bed stock and adjust chassis??will post an updated pic of my 68-w/c4 on the corners this week with the new stainless tank from Rick's!! 32 gallon all above the bottom of frame rails(raised wood floor and widened rear frame rails)!
Keep us posted !:hail: jim

thanks, i stretched the cab 1 3/4 . the cab will be under cut to absorb the legnth. heres some pics of my revised roof notch, its twice as long. im liken it better now. bill

Datsbad 01-13-2009 11:04 AM

Bill , with the floor bracing I guess your not to concerned about the overall weight of the vehicle. Why not do some chromoly tubing and tig weld it. Seems that box tubing will make the truck a little heavy .
Do you have a overall weight goal in mind ?

Do you plan on using the CTS-V trans?

i used the box in the floor because when i install floor boards ill have a nice flat surface to plug weld to. i figure whats a little extra weight when when im sitting on it. im not as concerned about weight as much as i am rigidness. yes im using the trans but matching up that tail shaft has been a puzzle. no clue on the over all weight ,shes heavy ,when i boxed the frame w 1/8 steel i guess i threw the whole weight thing out the window. thanks bill

ps and for the tig welding, dont have one ,but id like to get one. guess im a little low tech.

It looks like a killer truck , if you need any help with the trans let me know.

The truck is looking great! I had no idea you could change the cab that much and still use the stock windshield, very cool. What will have to happen with the door glass?
I really like what you are doing with the interior too. What is that dash out of?

Door glass is flat in these trucks so that should be relatively easy vs. the rest of the worms that popped out of the can. I'm not much of a late model guy.... What's the dash been plucked from?

the dash is out of a caddy cts, i had to make it 6 in wider to make it fit the cab. now i can use the cts v cluster. im getting the bed fit up now but i didnt like how the wheel was centered in the wheel well so i cut the whole arch out & moved it forward 2in. thanks for checking in bill

I moved the bed forward as much as possible & will stretch the wheel base to cover the remainder. I'm digging the dash.

just a few progress pics , im paying one of my employees (willie) to help me out at night, while im up to my neck in little league , so hopefully i can get rolling again. were working on the bed mods ,moved up the bed floor 1 1/2 inches and dropped the sides 4 in ,moved the arches forward 2in & have to widen the wheel wells 2in and raise them 3in. i pie cut behind the rear wheel and lowered it 2in so it would look lower and make the roll pan bigger . im hoping to do something crazy with the exhaust thru the roll pan. the wheels im mocking up with are 20 x 10 but i think i may need something wider. thanks for checking in bill

few pics of the new firewall and resivor pocket. this way i can check the fluids with out removing the cowl. can any one sugest what rear end gear to use with my 6 spd 373?? thanks bill

ScotI 06-21-2009 09:25 PM

Diggin' the firewall. I guess you're making a smaller removable cover for that side of the cowl panel to access the resivoirs?

I'm runnin a t-56 in my daily driver 99 chevy truck and a 4.56 gear in the rear. This will allow you to use 6th gear effectively. I rev to about 1650 rpm's running 65 in 6th, given this with a 30'' tall tire so you wanna factor that in. I was skeptical about a gear this low but it was perfect.

bill amsley 06-28-2009 05:36 PM

other people told me a 456 also. can you still use first or is it too low. thanks bill
ps ill post a pic showing the resivors w the cowl on it looks pretty cool the you can only see the bottle levels.

GMracer 06-28-2009 06:44 PM

I'm curious also, I'm running a t56 in my 2001 and was told to even runn 4.88s and they would be fine. But this is for a Turbo setup, and 29" tire.

I have 4.10's in my SS with a 275/40/17 (25.66"). The ZF has a 0.5:1 OD ratio in 6th, and I turn 2400 RPM at 80 mph. It's perfect.

If I were to run a 29" tire, I would need a 4.63:1 ratio to keep the overall ratio the same.

bill amsley 07-01-2009 06:03 PM

thanks guys . i guess ill go with the 456 because ill be runnin 295 40 20 . little league is finally done, so hopefully i can spend some more time on this project and get it down on the wheels. bill

First gear is very usable, but you dont stay in it long. It's great to get the tires smokin good and then go to second to hunt ditches.:woot:

few pics, starting to work on tne front end. had to make a rad support because ive made so many changes .the rad & cond are low in the frame to keep room for the intake work. i used a hood from a 07 tahoe and skinned it,i had to glue it and use pillar foam to keep the tissue paper like skin from warping then tacked it in place till the glue sets up. thanks for checking in bill

Hi Bill, awesome job you are doing. If my truck looks 1/10 of what yours is going to be I'll be one happy camper. I have '68 C10 also that I'm putting an LS2 and a 6 speed automatic tranny in. I have the motor already and will buy the tranny in approx 6 months if my budget allows. If money gets funny I will go with a 4L80. Also, for wheels I plan on 3-piece 22x9 up front & 22x12 out rear. I'm just buying parts right now though. Keep up the good work. Your truck is sick!!!!!!!

Oh Bill, by the way....I may have to steal that little tailgate spoiler idea from you. LOL!! By the way, on a serious note, I'll wait until your truck is finished though because my project is far behind yours. Can I send you my tailgate and you make me a spoiler like that??:hail:

MattO 07-09-2009 01:24 AM

Hood looks good. I really like it. I'm interested to see if you do some sort of engine cover. I want to do one for my 6.2L, but I'm not 100% sure what to do yet...
