that sucks large ones.... big time.. for some reason i feel its almost worse to have a project stolen than a car... its ike they not only take the vehiecle, but all the dreams and plans too... if you have some miles on the car you can atleast look back at the satisfaction of finishing it, anyway.. like everyone else ill keep my eyes and ears open...
to bad its not just on overhaulin.... |
Not this again. Another theft. There has to be much harsher laws to prevent this kind of thing. I guess this serves as a warning in this economy that these things will keep happening as more and more people get desperate. The police don't seem to care about stolen cars anymore. And this is why I have guns and don't ever intend to aim for the legs. Sorry to hear about this Tyler.

So the key code pad camera that my storage space has to let people in and out got a good shot of the guy as he was walking out. Hope someone recognizes him.
http://i35.tinypic.com/1z1s7cl.jpg Also Bakersfield Police Department called this morning with a guy trying to sell some old scrap metal that looks like car parts. They detained him and kept the scrap as evidence. Might be a good lead..... Tyler |
Oh man,
I wish I had pictures or video of the guy you broke into my house last week. I would be knock the guy out if I saw him. Tie him up bring him to an empty warehouse and let the torture begin untill he told me where the car was. Then I would take his car and truck take it to a scrap yard and have it shredded or crushed. Im not bitter am I |

Good deal, Tyler.
This sh*t has got to stop! Do I see the HRE wheel turned backwards? What was the guys name? Do you know him? How did he know about your car/stuff? |
WOW!
Congrats!!!!!!!!! Were they trying to make a new chassis for it? |
I recognize that guy!!! He was snooping around my Cuda a couple of months ago.....

 yes, well played. |
LOLZ.
So this was obviously a joke. Funny to some, others not so much. Just in case anyone is skimming and not reading each post: The 50/50 Camaro was not stolen. It is at Ironworks Speed and Kustom. I hope I didn't piss too many people off with my little 'Overhaulin' type story. The pic I posted is of Rodger Lee, owner of Ironworks. He picked up 50/50 while out at the SEMA show, and he is going to breathe new life into the car. He and I had the idea to tell people who ask about it that it was stolen, so we ran with it. It picked up more steam than I thought it would in such a short time, I even saw mass emails circulating about it already. For that I apologize. We have a great community here, tons of people willing to help out a stranger; I didn't mean to decive, just wanted to have a little fun with a project that at times got the best of me. The first hint of my car going to Ironworks actually came out in Rich Allen's thread. Rodger slipped my car into the background of one of his updates. Brent Dupont, Rich Allen, Mick etc picked up on it rather quickly, but few others did. Here is the post for reference: https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...&postcount=178 The plan is to cut out the entire chassis and start over. Ironworks will be redoing the front and rear chassis, body and sheetmetal. Ok. I have confessed. Ready for my flaming and public beating. Tyler |
solved

Oh MAN I was going to say that but I did'nt want to make lite of the situation!!! Man this is classic WOW:lol:
Mario |
I wondered, but damn - Nice One!
You had me fooled. Some people were getting seriously distraught. If you had let this go long enough, Rodger may have ended up in Police custody. :_paranoid |
Best part was it was figured out on page 3 but it kept going.:D Good one man. You know payback is a bitch right?
|
There's been a few other sitings of this same guy.
http://www.cryptozoology.com/cryptid...asquatch01.jpg Glad it's all a hoax. |
You couldn't wait till April 1st!!
Man with all the break-ins happening and my house getting broken in to its not funny. On the other hand it was a good prank you got alot of people with it. |
You got me man!!!!
All is good!  |
Got me too....at times I wondered early on but It's one of those things you don't want to call B.S. on if true as that would only upset the owner.
|

Tyler:
I'm real glad you didn't lose your car, however please don't do this again. There are many of us here that have never met each other, but we share common goals and values, and would gladly help each other get through a catastrophy like this. I just ordered some parts though you, and I was looking for something else to buy to make your loss a little bit easier. Once again, I am really glad 50/50 is ok, but this is tough on some of the people who really empathis with those who are really trying to get through a hard time. Thanks for spilling the beans before it went on to long. I'm probably the only one who feels this way, but I just thought I would mention it. Now that I said that, Can you update my order from ATS? I have everything I need for the next addition to the car except the lower control arms for the coil overs, the ATS Coil over kit and the Penskes. Email me when you can. Thanks, Ty O'Neal |
I rolled off my couch laughing when you posted the picture of Rodger supposedly at the key pad

On a good note, Sooooooooo Glad 50/50 is getting back on track! It was one of my inspirations for sure! :D Sweet deal bud, can't wait to crack a beer with you next time in Vegas! |

Alrighty Boys and Girls. The death threats have started to become less frequent over the weekend, and I feel I can now reward your understanding of my twisted humor with a short story and a ton of pics.
Those who are not aware of my (never-ending-never-finished) Project 50/50 Camaro- here is the cliff notes: Sept 1999- Car is sent to Wayne Due's Chassis shop in Maryland, WA for a complete tube chassis build based on a C5 corvette. Mar 2002- chassis is completed and sent to Tustin, CA for carbon Fiber body kit prototyping. April 2003- car is rescued from crooked body kit shop and delivered to secondary garage for completion of body molds. Feb 2004- Car is again rescued from 2nd crooked body kit garage and trailed home. All bare steel is covered in rust, vehicle condition is poor. Feb 2004-October 2008- Car sits in garage under car cover. I try to forget about all the money & time lost on project and wince every time people bring up my failed car on the internet. Nov 2008- car is trailer to Ironworks in Bakersfield for some modifications to the sheetmetal and rollcage. So there is the VERY condensed version. It could go on and on for almost 4 pages, some good humored times, some slit your wrist times, some kill everyone within a 3 mile radius times. Rodger is one of the few people I trust for my personal projects. We met in 2006 and I just knew that this man had talent and determination. Seeing the work come out of his shop for the past 2 years and the numerous 2 hour phone calls we've had discussing our ideas, Rodger suggested I let him have a crack at the car. He 'stole' it from my storage space during the week of the 08 SEMA show and took it back to Bakersfield. When it arrived the roll cage was promptly cut out of the vehicle. I'll show you why in a few posts.... Here is the car as it sat under the car cover for the past 4 years. All the brown is surface rust from being outside near the ocean for over a year. Engine setback and firewall: http://i33.tinypic.com/2z8uu6r.jpg Rear transaxle cover, rear main roll cage hoop and floor: http://i34.tinypic.com/j96ek4.jpg Engine compartment with front down bars that don't clear the tires under full lock: http://i35.tinypic.com/w21yfd.jpg So it needs a slight re do in a few spots. No big deal. More to follow.... Tyler |
The roll cage. It was built to standards not completely approved by any racing sanctioning body. One of the reasons for not passing tech would be this little gem:
http://i37.tinypic.com/j6rlfn.jpg Yes. That is indeed an entire Sharpie marker stuffed into the non-notched-grand-canyon-sized gap of the tube joint. That is just one of many slight blunders of fabrication that went into my $14K chassis and roll cage. Other fun facts include: Inner frame too narrow to fit an actual exhaust system. Front down bars hit both front tires when turning. Frame rails made of 2x4 and 3x3 .120 wall metal (tank chassis) Front A pillar down tubes leave under 10 inches of room for 3 pedals Large gaps in joints of roll cage Sheetmetal doubled up in most places for strength (tank floor) Chassis could be built lighter and stronger with even lower ride height. Here are more cool pics from the cage: Don't worry about the MIG wire, it will add strength over time. http://i34.tinypic.com/v4sbi0.jpg What?!? Seriously? Come the 'F' on.... http://i35.tinypic.com/2hmodio.jpg How does this get the thumbs up to be shipped to a client? http://i34.tinypic.com/23wjpl0.jpg Frame pics next... Tyler |
Eak :(
|
Tank frame by Wayne. None of you can tell me that Wayne didn't build it strong enough. He used some serious wall thickness on the frame rails and added beef like it was going out of style. The car was a bit over weight for my standards, so it got put on a diet.
The 50/50 Camaro before it goes onto the frame table for its new chassis: http://i38.tinypic.com/2wm2mja.jpg Here is the M1A1 Abrams C5 chassis: http://i37.tinypic.com/ziwsns.jpg It had to be a bitch to cut that thing out in one piece. I'm surprised they were able to do so. If anyone would like it, make me an offer. http://i35.tinypic.com/212hg5g.jpg Rodger and his crew have done a tube chassis once before and took some lessons from them to create this new tube frame. This is the rear. The front will be very similar. I think he shed 50% of the cars weight just by making a new frame for it. http://i36.tinypic.com/vxc01u.jpg http://i36.tinypic.com/bvqbr.jpg Tyler |
So here is the money shot for me. I've never had a chance to put the HRE 542R wheels on the car before as I never purchased any tires. I plan to race this car so I figured get some tires that will do me right on the road courses.
I picked up some Michelin road race slicks from a former LeMans C5R Corvette to fir the 18x12 and 18x9.5 HRE wheels. Rodger mocked them up on the frame table now that the car is on it. Rocker to ground is 6.5 inches. Roof height will be about 47.5 inches from the ground. http://i34.tinypic.com/28vx5dc.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/20rwzrq.jpg http://i36.tinypic.com/24v60hz.jpg That is all as of Today. Progress will be updated as I get pics from Rodger. Tyler |
Tyler
Please tell me that those welds were just tacks waiting ot be finished, and not the finished product:faint: $14.000.00!!!!!! Mario |
http://i34.tinypic.com/23wjpl0.jpg
"Cut twice, measure once...that's my motto" :wow: The sad thing is how many other cars are out there with that kind of build quality? Scary. Looks like the car is finally in some competant hands Tyler. Good Luck with it. |
