Thanks. I'm just glad it's finally starting to look like a car again. It was touch and go there for awhile :woot:

Update:
Making a little progress. I decided to cut away the inner edge of the outer wheel houses so that I could cut and tuck the rear quarters in a bit (I did that before I set the quarters on). I'm hoping to stuff some 285's back there.

I started by laying down some thin masking tape to mark a straight line.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/IMGP1058.jpg

Then I cut straight lines with my airsaw every inch or so.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/IMGP1060.jpg

I was able to bend each section by hand and follow up with just a little hammering to get the edge to sit flat.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/IMGP1062.jpg

I then spot welded.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/IMGP1064.jpg

Cleaned up with some sanding discs and sprayed a light coat of Zero Rust.

A little further: Thinking I could fit a 33X12.50X15 tire there

Just kidding

Here's the 67 Camaro section I spliced into my tail panel; Thanks again to ItDoRun for the panel section and Scherp69 for the idea :) I think I inhaled some paint fumes that day because I kind of messed up the cut. Oh well, it's a learning process, right?

I did add more weld to fill the gaps after this shot, just can't find the picture.

I also started cleaning up the underside and prepping for epoxy primer, then Raptor liner. Pics on that soon.

Looks good. What type of gas cap are you going to be running?

It looks good.

Some updates. I finished cleaning up the underside. I used Dupont epoxy primer and followed up with Raptor truck bed liner. I also got the sub-frame apart, cleaned up, and all seams welded solid. It's at the powdercoaters right now, I should be getting it back today. Here are the pics.....

Thanks :D I mostly work on it once a week; Friday nights or "Firebird Friday". The car sat for months without any progress until I started my Friday ritual. It's really amazing what can be done if you just dedicate a few hours every week.

67rstbkt 04-19-2010 08:25 PM

I went and picked up the sub frame from the powdercoaters today

I love that statement --

Guys ask me all the time -- "how do you get so much done...." My pat answer "I actually work on it". Funny how they don't build themselves at night while you're sleeping! God how I wish they would!

Yea, they sure don't. I usually pick one thing to do on Friday night and do it; even if it's something small like setting a gap correctly, it gets me that much closer. I'm actually amazed with how much I was able to get done this past year just completing a small task each week.

It's looking great! This sure is inspiration for my build. I should be back on it this weekend chipping away at it...

Thanks, chipping away is the way to do it :D

Really nice job so far on the build, I wish I could do it that way pulling the subframe out and all. oh well, small garages suck, LOL. I'll be keeping and eye on your build. keep the pics flowing.

Thanks, I will. The subframe is now mounted and I stuck the original rear end back in; I have two tires on the ground  Once I finish painting my lower control arms and engine brackets, I'll have a roller...

67rstbkt 05-15-2010 12:17 PM

Here's an update.
I mounted the subframe using Global West solid bushings, mounted the GW upper arms, painted the stock lowers. Upper and lower arms have poly bushings. I also mounted the stock rear-end for the time being so that I could get this to roller status. The brakes will be C5; I picked up a set of calipers for a good price, so I guess I'll be giving Kore3 a call for some brackets and hardware.

Did you make the Guildstrand mod to the stock frame?

Yes, that's the stock subframe. I did not need to trim away the control arm mount and original holes because I'm using tubular arms. That way I can always go back if I need to.

67rstbkt 06-06-2010 02:00 PM

I got some more work done on the firewall and started motor dis assembly. I also fit the mega brace lifter valley brace on my 400. I'll be dropping the block off at the machinist this week.

Been awhile since an update, so here you go. My block is still at the machine shop, so I'm sort of on a hold for a little while. I painted the firewall and dash in preparation for the motor. I picked up a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Hayes flywheel and a Mcleod clutch.

Minor update: I'm still waiting on the machine shop; I stopped by yesterday and they are working on it, so it should not be too long now.
I snapped a few pics while I was there:

I picked up my parts this past Friday; now the fun begins. I filed the rings to fit and should hopefully get the shortblock assembled this week. Here are the pics:

67rstbkt 10-03-2011 10:41 AM

I guess I'm long over due for an update. Progress has been slow, I sort of got sidetracked on another deal. The block is mostly together and painted. I'm just waiting on the manifold, it's at the machine shop. It needs some material removed to fit due to the block decking and head resurfacing. The heads got a little more work than I originally intended. In addition to resurfacing, the ports and chambers were cleaned up, new springs installed, and the vlave job was touched up.

Here are some pics:

Thanks  I'm hoping that I'll be in the 500hp range with the combo. I would really like to run it on a dyno to find out, but I'm not sure if anyone around here has one. I used the examples in the back of Jim Hand's book to help put it together. It's not exactly the same, but I picked one of the combos and went with it. The main difference is the cam, I went with a solid cam from PPR
