Is upgrading the right word with going with the iron block? I am curious how much the ls3 al block can handle power wise??

Most definately a upgrade. The LSX block is superior to all the other blocks made. 6 Bolts per cylinder for the heads will greatly aid in clamping force as the LS motors are know to push water . |

Only gm block with 6 bolt is the LSX iron block . It is 100 lbs heavier. Ls2 and LS3 block are most likely about the same for power capabilties. |

I did think the LS7 was a 6 bolt? |

ls3 versus Lsx
These guys went this route to basically bomb proof the bottom ends The l2/ls3/ls7 all only have four bolts per cyl head but thats not why i upgraded them if you were only going to run 800 hp the factory block is good but beyond that you get into problems of spliting the sleeves and the material behind the sleeves, and after talking to everyone who bought one one guy is running Maxon the other two are natural born nuts .And with this motor the only reason its rated at 800 hp is because of the block ,crank rod combo.with the block crank and rod upgrade the motor makes over 1300hp.After all the horsepower is just a turn of a knob away so everyone felt more secure this way.Plus it will allow me to ring it out for everyone to see what they have in them. But the block is heavier but i think everyone could live with that.

Thanks for that Tom. :D

Maxton sounds good for this type of build. This setup would also be nice in a car running the Silver State Classic... |
